Hi guys!
My friend gave me this Diawa two piece rod and reel that was her late fathers. I'm guessing it's from the 70's due to the color scheme, and fiberglass construction. Unfortunately, the weight info on the sticker has come off. It's a little over 7 feet long.
I'm wondering what weight it is so I can put new backing and line on it.
Any info appreciated.
Thanks!

Best way to find out is try some different lines. That way you know what feels good when you cast. I've got a bunch of different weight lines. We could figure it out real easy. Let's hook up and find out.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Cool! Thanks Scott!  I have a pass for Seco now and was going to play with it from the bank this weekend. Is the reel right handed? I reel with my left, so maybe I need a different reel? I can learn to work it as is though. Been flipping it in the driveway with a tiny splitshot. It dies out at about 25 feet. There is some mono looking line tied to a floating (?) line. Not sure if it's a tippet or just leader. It's about 6ft long.

How much is the pass now? I use to buy them years ago when they were $30 per year.

Did a quick web search and copied the result here:

Post subject: Re: Pflueger Medalist 1595
pretty sure the only difference  is that the 1595 is a left hand winder
As you know, it's an Akron made LHW version of the 1495, a bit scarce. A very nice example recently sold at popular auction and brought a handsome closing bid. If you do a search of Completed Listings under Pflueger Medalist on the auction site you can see it. It's a very durable reel as Medalists are, and is wonderful for a 6 to 8 wt line, weighs in the high 6 ounces if I remember correctly. I find these reels balance 8 to 81/2 foot cane rods nicely.

Found out that the reel is left hand winder and was made in the 80's. It is made in china. Someone had mounted it as a right hander, and wound it that way. I took all the line off, cleaned it up, and put new backing and #4 floating line on it, mounted lefty. Been playing in the yard and still can't get it to cast farther that 20 feet, so I may need to put #5 or 6 on it? Idk, I'm a fly newb. Just guessing.
No info on the rod.

I wouldn't fret all that much about how far you can cast with it.  A heavier wt line might help but keep in mind that smaller stream fishing and even some of the bigger water such as the Trinity, Yuba or Feather, roll casting is king.

The mono tied to the fly line is your leader and you tie your tippet onto the leader.
