A wave must have ripped my Standard Horizon HX870 off my PFD while I was punching through the surf at Linda Mar yesterday. I didn't realize it was gone until I was out past the breakers. The MMSI number is 338186315.

Obviously I need to figure out a way to mount a radio that is truly secure, lets me clearly see the screen, and keeps it out of the way.

Since it looks like I'm in the market for a new radio, any recommendations for models that have DSC and GPS? I was happy with the HX870, but since I'm likely to hard-tie it to my PFD in the future, a non-floating model might be a plus, to cut down on bulk.

Hi NCKA Bruddahs,
After thinking that I has a secure way to attach my VHF to my NRS jacket for a couple of years, I lost it in the drink a few months ago. When I had to buy a new Standard Horizon HX 870, I decided to make sure that it wouldn't happen again.
Here's some pics of my new VHF safety cord to my NRS jacket.
First of all, I didn't like having the radio way down so that's where I hook up my fishing pliers and the there is a square rigging thing on the upper left hand corner of the NRS that I used an old nylon strap and buckle that I had lying around. I bought what I think was a oar leash and liked that it was very compact and use that as the main tether for the radio. At $200 a pop I didn't want to lose another one
By the way GPS Store might still have a sale and rebate for a SH HX870.
Here's what it looks like.
Aloha,
Da Bruddah (Michael)
