Hi.  Noob here from San Jose.  I went out for my first time at Pillar Point on a forum members Hobie Outback.  It was quite an experience (somewhat overwhelming) with the mixed swells!

Definitely gave me the itch to get my own setup and I'll be buying an Outback of my own and storing it in Carmel.  Looking to do trips all over Monterey and Bay Area, perhaps freshwater as well?  I'm a bass fisherman at heart so trying to get used to all this salt =D

Well, ocean fishing will be winding down during the next month or so. But SF bay fishing can be good for stripers & sturgeon during winter. Not a lot of freshwater trout options locally, but as you know we can basically catch bass year round.

Welcome to the Madness neighbor!  Crab season opens soon and I hope to target bass and trout when the ocean doesn't want to cooperate.  Let's go fishing!

Welcome!  If you went out on Sunday, yeah, that was a rough day with the confused seas.  I hope you enjoy the learning curve as much as I did.

FYI, Dungeness crab opens on November 4th.

Thanks guys!  Looks like a great group of people.

I go for Trout in winter around Quarry Lakes, Lake Chabot, Vaqueros etc.  Will have to give em a shot.

I'm down ! Bass get a little too sleepy for me in winter, but trout and stripers yes please.

It was a little much for my first time, but the nice part is I was able to come back in easily as we stayed within the first buoy.

How do you guys normally go for crab off a kayak?  Snare rigs or literally bringing a giant trap out? lol.
