Title: WTB low mileage Tacoma
Post by: Fish 'n Brew on February 05, 2015, 02:12:33 PM
I'm looking for a low mileage Toyota Tacoma for my son.  His car was totaled last week and needs to be replaced.  All I can find are high mileage, high priced trucks.  I would prefer a 4 cyl. and don't need a 4X4. If I don't find something decent in a couple of days, I'll buy a new one but would prefer to get a gently used one.

i think you're better off buying a brand new one. used taco's are basically the same price as a brand new one :smt010

I looked for a used Tacoma myself but rapidly went to a Tundra instead (for the towing cap).  I went to a LOT of dealers & decided to look used on the free market.  Dealers are all asking sky high prices for used Tacomas as they claim the auction prices they pay have gone up due to high demand.  Almost every dealer I went to was $5k or MORE over blue book of higher grade condition than the actual truck was ... with "no wiggle room on price".  If you do find a good deal, jump fast on it!

I bought my 2013 Tacoma in December and paid 21k out-the-door.  It's a 4 cyl manual transmission with a camper shell and got 21k miles on it

With Tacomas, it seems like new is the way to go. Here's a good deal: http://www.toyotawc.com/new/Toyota/2015-Toyota-Tacoma-Walnut-Creek-CA-11ecf34b0a0a00de03083eadb0b97be6.htm

I worked for toyota before I became a nurse and tacoma's hold their value. Like many have said new may be the way to go. If you do buy used you may want to look at private sellers. It was rare that a used tacoma would sit on a dealers lot for more than a week. I believe there is someone on NCKA that still works for Toyota. What year are you looking for? When I got my 2006 in 2010 it only had 35K miles on it. It was a rare find.

Yep, he's fine.   Thanks for asking.  I think we're going  to buy a new one.  Like everybody said;  there's virtually no difference in price.  The Costco price is invoice minus $250.  I don't think there's a better deal out there.  Now I just need to find the right one.

You'll rip your hair out looking for a good used one.  It took me forever to get my 99 forerunner, and I could only afford a salvaged one.  P.s. best truck I ever owned!  Good luck on your purchase, im jealous of your boy!

Got my 1995 toy pickup from an elderly customer in 2010 for $2800.  They drove it locally and only had 36k when I got it.  Sweet :smt007
It now has a total of 64k .  Not bad for a 20 yr old toyota pickup.
I have an ex co-worker that have the end of 1995 Tacoma model that has maybe 40k on it.  Been bugging her to sell to me but no luck yet.
My point is they are out there.  I will keep an eye out on my route for you Martin.

I purchased mine for about $18,000 out the door and put about $3,000 into it for the camper shell, bluetooth, roof racks and upgraded but incognito speakers. 2005 Tacoma Pre-Runner, 4 door, 75,000 miles. The mechanic I took it to after said it was in the best condition he's ever seen for a used Taco.

It now has about 96,000 miles and is running great. Like people have said, it's a pain in the butt to find a good deal (took me about 5 months), but they're out there.

I was looking for the same thing around Dec of 2013... used on craigslist and such were all V6, 4WD, giant tires and off-road gear that I just didn't need. A buddy who is a mechanic for Toyota in Rhonert Park suggested looking for the 'used certified' Tacoma Trucks via dealerships... found quite a few, ended up with a low mileage 2010 (20k miles, $16k) that was formerly a fleet vehicle for some company. Great warranty, no-frills model (base model, 4 cyl, no power windows/locks, automatic, rear-window slides open, crew-cab). $1800 for a camper shell after the fact, and I'm thrilled with it. Clean, easy, I look forward to running it into the ground.

The search is complete.  I bought a new one today at Dublin Toyota.  It's being transferred from Santa Cruz and should be available by Monday.  The price of new vs used is crazy.  The value retention on these trucks is just unbelievable.  The other benefit to buying new is the first 2 year's maintenance is included and you get the benefit of a new car warranty.  The totaled Hyundai had amazing value retention.  At 5 years old and 72,000 miles, the insurance company paid $6300.  The car was the "advertised special" and I paid $6999 brand new, 5 years ago.  I think the same car now sells for about $14000 new.  Hyundai is is no longer the cheapest car you can buy.

It's the cab with the jump seats.  4 banger with automatic. The Prerunner with the 4 only comes with auto.  Got the SR5 package which includes blue tooth, back up camera and a few other whistles and bells.

If he had gotten the V6 4x4, then it would cost at least an arm. But, a back-up camera?...that would work for me.

Got a great deal and Geoff is going to have to pay me back.   I'm just being the bank in the transaction.
