Hobie Kayaks / Hobie dolly questions
« on: May 23, 2022, 03:04:00 PM »
I currently use the Hobie plug in beach wheels for my outback kayak.  I was looking at the Hobie dolly the other day online and was wondering if it might suit me better.  Has anyone modified it so that isn't as wide?  I don't need the two areas on the side to support amas, I was wondering if its possible to shorten the axle and remove the Ama support part of the cradle, reducing the width of the dolly?

For Sale / 2 person framed Scadden river raft $950
« on: February 19, 2022, 10:16:00 AM »
Scadden Avenger XX river raft for sale $950.   It has a quick disconnect frame and the whole raft can easily fit into the trunk of a car.  It has 2 swivel seats for two people, but can also can be used by one person.  The frame has 2 options when putting it together with quick disconnect pins, depending on whether you want the 1 person setup or the 2 person setup.  I just leave it in the 2 person setup even when I’m alone, as that works great.  It’s excellent for fishing rivers, the aft seat has a slide out platform to stand on with a lean rail and stripping net, so that person can standup and cast while the other person is on the sticks.  Extras include, carbon oars (not the standard oars), 4 zippers bags, 2 rod holders, anchor and anchor system (can be operated from the oarmans seat, rescue bag, pumps, storage bags, extra quick disconnect pins and tools.  Excellent condition as it’s been used less than a dozen times and has always been stored in a garage.  Google it for more info on the Scadden website, they are selling for $2499 and that’s without the extras I’m including.  The last picture is a stock photo of the raft showing the complete setup, which my pictures don't show.

For Sale / 2 person framed river raft with extras $1100
« on: April 01, 2021, 10:00:37 AM »
This isn't a kayak but a river raft, so maybe not appropriate for the forum.

Scadden Avenger XX with extras for sale $1100.  This framed 2 person river raft has upgraded carbon oars, folding seats, oar keepers on the frame (to stow the oars out of the water), anchor and anchor system (enables one to set the anchor from seat position), a folding lean bar for the aft seat person so they can stand securing while fishing, there is also a retracting standing platform for the aft seat, 4 black gear bags (secures on top the frame an both sides of both seats), a 2-way hand pump to inflate the raft, 2 long pvc fishing rod holders, and a large container to hold the deflated raft and everything else except the frame and oars.  The frame can be put together or taken apart quickly with quick disconnect pins, so one can put it into the trunk of a car easily.  One great feature about this versatile raft is that the frame can be put together different ways; as a 2 person raft or just using half the frame in the middle position of the inflatable part as a one person raft.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / dry suit store north bay area?
« on: June 05, 2020, 11:43:32 AM »
I was intersting in getting a dry suit for coastal kayak fishing in NorCal.  Rather than buy online and hope the fit is right I would prefer to shop at a store and be able to actually try the suit on.  I was looking at kokatat and Stolquist.  It looks like West Marine stopped carrying drysuits, at least they don't have them on their website.  Any suggestions on places that have these?  Thanks

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Garmin echomap plus 74 transducer options
« on: October 03, 2019, 10:52:25 AM »
Considering getting a garmin Echomap plus 74 for a new Hobie outback.  It has 2 different transducers as options.  The GT23 with clearvu and traditional chirp, and then the GT51 with sidevu, clearvu and chirp.  does anyone have knowledge about these, wondering if the more expensive GT51 is worth it.  I fish Norcal coastal kayak areas.  Thanks

Kayaks / recommendations for Norcal coastal kayak
« on: June 16, 2019, 06:38:13 AM »
Hey everybody,

I have a Cobra tandem and I'm doing research to upgrade.  I like the idea of the being able to peddle as well as paddle, so I've been looking at the Hobie Mirage series.  Mostly I would use it in the ocean along the Sonoma & Mendocino coast, and sometimes Tomales/Bodega bays as well.  I primarily want it for fishing, crabbing and a bit of diving, and the sailing looks like fun too (regarding the adventure island).

The ones I'm looking at online (of course I need to go see them in person, and I will) are the Mirage Pro angler 12, Mirage Pro angler 14, Outback, and the Mirage Adventure Island.  These are much heavier than my tandem Cobra (58 lbs), and that is a concern as I am usually solo launching from little beaches with rocky areas of course.  I would appreciate any input, and thanks

General Talk / 18-24" pvc pipe for clamming
« on: February 25, 2019, 03:56:19 PM »
Hey guys,

I've been watching videos on clamming at Bodega and Tomales and have seen people using 18 to 24" diameter pvc pipe about 3 feet long.  They work this down into the sand/mud to keep it from caving in, as they dig with a shovel.  Any idea where one can buy this size pipe?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Garmin Echomap Plus 64cv
« on: November 18, 2018, 02:38:55 PM »
I'm thinking of getting a Garmin Echomap Plus 64cv for my kayak, should I find a deal next week on black friday.  I've done a bit of research and have found the transducers that are not in hull, but actually in the water along the side of the kayak perform better.  One can't even get a clearV transducer that is in hull, so i was thinking of using a magnetic mount (fish.finder.mounts.) for the transducer.  What do you all think of this FF and plan?  Thanks
