I noticed there was a pretty good weather window for the beginning of this week and decided Tuesday was going to be the day. Drove out hwy 128 through Albion and up to Caspar to pick up Rob102. My excitement grew as I watched flat seas and clear water on the way up. We loaded up and were on the water by 9:00. We dropped two of his square traps in 35' and 50' baited with leftover fish fillets. Plan was to poke around for scallops and fish and pull the traps at the end of the day. We were greeted with a whale show that went on all day with six or seven sightings in close near shore. The scallops started off slow but we both managed about a half dozen. The spearfishing wasn't red hot either but we each ended up with two lings and an assortment of rockfish. I got lucky and found a decent Puget king crab toward the end of the day. Conditions stayed great all day. Light swell, no wind, and 6-12 feet of viz. on one of my last dives I dropped down to 38'. I was laying on the bottom and a good sized red cruised past me and kept going. I followed slowly and hid behind a boulder and she eventually turned and swam toward me. I lined up my shot and fired down on her but my angle was bad and blocked by a ledge. The shot hit high on her back and she tore off. I found the hole she dove in but had to go up to reload. After a few drops in the wrong direction Rob guided me to my original location and I landed on the hole and plugged her behind the head. She was a nice fat one that went 7.25lbs. Shorty after we checked one more spot and then headed in to pull the traps. To our surprise the deeper trap had over 20 crab with 17 being keepers. The shallow trap only had five crab and two keepers. It was a great day on the water with good company

from the picture it looks like a box crab.  I don't know the difference between them and a king crab, just pointing out the similarities.

I’m no expert (at anything) but the differences that stick out are color (purple/orange/red) vs Brown for box crab, as well as size (box crabs are usually under 6 inches). Both are technically king crabs. According to Wikipedia at least.

Nice haul. I've got to get up there sometime. How did the king crab taste?
