I think these guys deserve better than hotdogs. This will be their first taste of the madness and since there ain't no booze allowed,i think the food better be pretty damn good. Thats just how we roll in nor-cal. I'm in for $50.

No, I don't, I'm not quite set up yet, but The National Heroes on the Water site does...

I do believe if you can specify that it is for California HOW, The Director would send me the $$$ in form of a check, and it is Tax deductable...

Just let me be sure that they will be able to differentiate where donations are coming from and where they should go to before you send in cash...

I will be set up soon, but for now, I'm just trying to get the troops OTW ASAFP....  :smt002

  Thanks

Thanks for the offer Ben. I had thought about fish tacos originally but decided that my deep-fry capabilities would be too limited to feed 40-50 people in a timely manner. The shrimp boil allows me to cook shrimp, corn and potatoes all in one beautiful cauldron of love.

Howdy   -- Thanks to everyone for jumping in. Don's been working his tail off on this. The first outing is by far the hardest.

Y'all can donate to the Paypal on the HOW site - http://www.HeroesOnTheWater.org . Put a note in that it is for NorCal HOW. We will get the money back to Don for the outing. It's a little convoluted until we get y'all set up as a non profit in CA.

We have two rules -
-everyone, including volunteers, wears a PFD.
- All events are NO ALCOHOL!! Lots of reasons, but the main one is  some of these folks are on drugs where a sip of alcohol could kill them. So we don't do it. And some may ask.

Sounds like the fishing and food will be awesome. Y'all have fun and please send any critiques, pics, comments, etc to us. We really need to know how we can help y'all out and make things better.

Thought y'all would like to see this. Our Marine in North Carolina received it yesterday  --

May, 2010 -- An email from an Army Captain to one of Heroes on the Water Chapter Coordinator’s --
“ Thank you so much for treating us to a little piece of your heaven. 'The river' truly opened our eyes to a whole new way of fishing.  ;)

We talked about our trip all the way back. You are a true warrior, and I would have been proud to serve next to you.

You have given us a new sport that we can do with our injuries.  Best of all, I really yearn for a morning in the woods with my bike or a long run down our country road... those thoughts have been replaced by talk of new fishing tackle, rods, water craft, and terrain.  You have no idea how mentally and physically healing your program is.  Thank you!!  Thank you for your time, your expertise, your passion, and your dedication to the military in which you served.  We feel blessed!!  :)

Donated online via the website's Paypal, and was nice and easy!!

Just put in the remarks that it was for NorCal HOW c/o Don Anglin and even got confirmation from Jim Dolan that payment had been received and that it would be forwarded to Don!!!

Thanks Jim for all the great work you are doing...I have many family members who are active duty and I know how valuable these kinds of activities are...

Thanks again for allowing me to be a part of this and to give back.

Sincerely,

Jim

Thanks Guys for your Donation to Heroes on the Water!!!!..

I'm hopeful I will be getting sponsorship and maybe a Grant or 2 in the future, but for now, I'm realizing, that things can add up fast, and thanks for the help in that.

This event is promising to be Something Special,

When the VA and the Troops go back and tell everyone else...

Hold on to your hat...  or should I say,

 Your extra Kayak.....   :smt002

  Thanks Again Everyone           :smt006

Don,

I get two more paddles and one more PFD confirmed.

My "extra" gear total is then one yak, four paddles, three PFDS and one Spinning outfit. Add one to each of those categories if I am not paddling or fishing (which would be fine if that works out best for the group).

I have also sent a message to several guys that live around me to see if they have any gear that they could loan for the day. I will let you know what I hear back.

Sincerely,

Jim
