In interest of full disclosure, I gtota admit I'm just a little nervous. Tomorrow will be my first go-out since getting chased around the ocean by a big GWS.  I have a shark shield now that helps. Pretty sure once I get out and especially once I catch a fish the weebie jeebies will disappear. Stats are way with me.

PTSD. Post Traumatic Shark Disorder.

GWS do not eat people. This is from a recent article someone posted here last week:

In the waters off the coast of Southern California, Lowe says it’s not atypical to see up to 40 juvenile white sharks along a two-mile stretch of beach, interacting with people.

“Today, there were probably a dozen white shark interactions where they swim under the surfer,'' he says. “What you don’t hear about is people not being bitten. We have daily interactions, and they ignore people.

Put another way, if people were on the menu the norm would be daily reports of surfers, swimmers, and kayakers disappearing. Swimmers would be the easiest to eat. We never heard of someone swimming in the ocean and simply disappearing.

I think of it this way...

If a kayak were the bait... and a hook were attached to the kayak and giant fisherman were on the shore drifting kayaks around in the ocean on 2 mile long braided line targeting GWS... how often would a fisherman hook up with a GWS?

Don’t stress bush, out of all the YouTubers… I don’t see their fish dangling off the side of their kayaks getting taxed.
Keep calm paddle on!

Make sure your SS is working. My old one went kaput and was using it on several trips without me knowing. Took advantage of their trade in program and now have a brand new one.

Do you recommend the grab test (while the SS is submerged in saltwater), or something more sophisticated?

Oh yeah everything was just fine. Lightning striking twice and all that.  SS was working but pooped out after a couple hours, never heard it beep.

Really, my post was me just being adorably vulnerable.  Chicks dig it.

Otis hoping you're making the case to help ease my nerves?  But, fact is, GWS do KILL people. And/or injure grieviously.  Way more likely statistically to die from bee stings or even barnyard animals.  But, when an adult GWS is going aggro towards your kayak, the proper reaction is to be scared.  Caveman scared.

ps Go fish Otis and post some pics.  Come down to Santa Cruz you can go out with me as buddies.  I have a SS now, and it sorta works.

I felt fine!  thanks fellows!  We caught bolina rockfish no halibut but one I lost.

If you had fully charged it before use, and it died after two hours, that is indicative of a deteriorated battery. Time to swap it out.
