So I did it... bought my first fishing kayak. I got a really good deal on a Hobie Compass.  And I'm looking to all you awesome experts for advice on accessories.  First, a cart.  The salesperson sold me a Trax 2-30, could not believe how expensive it was, and thinking of returning it. I'm thinking the Hobie Trax 2 is plenty of cart and would work on both the beach, dirt, grass, and pavement at $50 less. Or maybe an off-brand scupper cart off of amazon for hundreds less.  So, I guess the first question is: for the money, trax 2-30, trax 2 or off-brand?

Second question - what brand crate?  The Hobie H crate looks pretty awesome but it's $160. The Yak Attack blakpak pro also looks awesome for about $150. Yak Attack also makes a milk crate with two rod holders and the option to add a livewell for $40.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hobie trax 2-30 is worth it. I had the smaller wheels and didn’t like them.

For crates I would not spend that kind of money on them unless it has a livewell. The Hobie livewell v2 is great but very expensive and only use it when I go for halibut. Most of the time I use a reliable fish bag to store my stuff in. Milk crate works fine too

I really like my 2-30 cart. I’ve had it since 2014 and use it for everything.

If it’s between the 2 crates you mentioned I would consider the Hobie crate. I like the built in rod holder on each corner(I own both a black pac and Hobie crate). There are also different sized crates for different sized tackle boxes.

As cool as they are, I've never been able to convince myself to buy a fancy crate.  I build them myself, they aren't cool, but they get the job done for like 30$.

Well, I think it's cool at least. And still stoked on it almost a year later.

Also to OP: A cart without beach wheels will struggle in sand (if you were thinking about going with the HD or standard). The Trax 2 or 2-30 seems to be the gold standard. Don't make the mistake I did which was try every other cart first before convincing myself to spend the $250 or whatever it is. Now my Trax 2 costed me closer to $500  :smt04

Even the trax 2 struggles in sand if the wheels aren't deflated enough. The 2-30 was cruiser when I tried a friend's, so if you're ok with the bulk, i'd say worth it. But overall, I'm happy with the 2. Whether or not it's worth the cost or space saving to switch from 2-30 to 2... that's the question I guess.

Congrats on the new yak!

Yeah, your crate is pretty cool!  I forgot I was going to steal that rocket launcher setup and add to mine  :smt005

Yeah what are you waiting for?! It's been awesome to stick the rod in either side to rig up... land fish... or troll.

I do like the design of the Hobie crates though. Like many, my aversion was the cost.

Thanks JewliOn!  That's a sweet cart. I do like your rocket launchers. That's an upgrade over the commercially available models because you can fish from them. The rod holders on the commercial models are only good for storage.

As for the cart, I think I'm gonna keep the 2-30. I don't love the giganticness of the wheels but then again I haven't tried them on sand yet. The Trax 2 is only $40 less so hardly worth the trouble of an exchange, since the store was out of or doesn't carry Trax 2.

The bigger the tires, the easier it is to pull on sand so I'd keep the big ones.  The smaller can be easier to store otw, but I usually keep my wheels in my vehicle.
