Hello EV1,
Great forum you all have here and glad to now be a member.
Retired gent here, travel all over the western USA for fishing and my other passion, Hunting.

Over 50 years fishing & operating various watercraft, mostly in the great Northwest. Crafts include 24'Grady White, 22' AlumaSuperVee sled, several driftboats, small powerboats. Many a salmon caught in Puget Sound, Elliott Bay, Columbia River and out in the ocean. Alaska and British Columbia/CA too.

But now just a fishing kayak for my fishing adventures.
Be fishing & visiting the waters of the bay area, as my daughter resides in San Bruno. Such a short drive to the ocean, Pacifica. Down the hill, I'm there.

Give me a wave if you see the MavYak, a PA14.
In pursuit of chrome, scales, fur and Titleists.
Crafts of the past: 14' Gregor, 16' Alumaweld drift boat, BW17' Montauk, 24' GradyWhite Fisherman, 18' Ranger BB, 22' Alumaweld Super Vee

Welcome.

Have you used your PA much on the ocean? I don't see too many of them out on the big blue...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

I've taken out quite a few people with PA's.  It's not a beach launch kind of boat, bring a good back, and I wouldn't want to have to paddle in if the drive broke down offshore, but it's otherwise an impressive platform that is very ocean-worthy.
I am a licensed guide.  DFW Guide ID:  1000124.   Let's do a trip together.

That's good to know.

I always think it odd that there are not more of them out and about in Santa Cruz, as it's an easy launch from the harbor. I can only remember 1 person who was a regular who piloted a PA, and he never seemed to go too far out. Maybe the distances are not too PA-friendly? At a minimum, it's about 1.5 to 2 miles (one-way) to get to most of the more popular locations...

If I only fished ocean, probably would have chosen the Outback. But this yak needs to be all purpose, my only watercraft now, and the PA stability suits my flyfishing ventures.
Fishing areas such as British Columbia-Kamloops, WA State for trout or southern UT lakes and waters around Bishop/Sierras.
Puget Sound & Strait of JuanDeFuca-WA State are a dream to kayak fish, just wind waves to be a concern...and if season is open. Very restrictive salmon seasons in WA State. Miss the old days there, for me that is 1973-early 1990's.

Had it out to La Jolla 2x, not as easy to paddle out, especially to time the sets. Luckily no flip but came darn close coming in onetime.
Oceanside, DanaPoint, harbor launches, to open ocean too.

Motorizing it soon with the Newport motor & 2-12v/50ah batts. That will move me faster in beach launching and rest the old legs for salmon trolling.
