Anyone try to mount it using bath tub silicon instead of using epoxy or goop?  If yes, any problem with it coming off later?

I used some 100% silicone I had laying around. It didn’t last.

I used Dow Corning 1199 window glazing silicone about five years ago in my Stealth and it's still holding strong. Had some left over from making custom wood and glass doors and that stuff is bomber, highly doubt Dap or any of the home grade products would hold up.

Thanks for the info Tsuri.  The manual said to use epoxy but I want something easier to remove after each season or transfer to another kayak.

Right! I also was not excited about trying to chip my transducer out of the epoxy that attached it to the egg shell thin fiberglass. Probably easier to remove and not as scary on polypropylene. You'll get a better bond if you lightly sand and clean the area your placing the transducer and the transducer itself with some acetone or rubbing alcohol.

Late to the party and not sure if this appeals or has been mentioned.  I cut a piece of closed cell foam the shape of the transducer and about 1-1.5 inches higher Glued that down to create a sealed bath.  My transducer sits in it right on the hull and is easily removed.  I fill the foam with water before launching and the reading is solid.  Eventually some water is sloshing around so I just empty it out.  It's about 2 cups per trip, maybe less... :smt006

Marine goop is a good choice, but if you want to remove it, it can be a pain. Getting the goop to release from the kayak is difficult but doable; getting the goop off the transducer is where the fun really begins...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Hi Eddie,
Tried this method on previous kayak and forgot to add water during the hurry launch  a d had to return to shore to add water ( must be a senior moment).

If you can un senior moment than I am convinced this might be the cleanest versatile attempt at an in hull install.  I like the ducer directly on the hull....Aloha "skunk off" slayah'... :smt006

This method works pretty well for me.  Simple, easy to adjust/remove. Water temp reading will be whatever the putty temp is, so not perfect. Other than that, no issues with this setup.
