While I don't necessarily agree with the idea, I think that level of conscientiousness is part of why I love this club.  I'm in.

I'm up in the air about GS for May of 2022.  The fact that, right now, there are many places where medical services and personnel are experiencing overload is reason enough for me to either not have the tournament or to consider asking that people confirm that they're vaccinated in order to participate.  Even if services in northern California aren't taxed, I have felt the entire time that what we do is an example to others across the country and the world.  Life must go on, but I'm not sure it includes putting on a big gathering in a remote location yet.

Thanks for the consideration~

I voted for proof of vaccination but a possible alternative/addition would be to require a negative rapid test 3 days before the event, and at arrival. With such a high number reluctant to be vaccinated we are probably going to have to learn safe ways to live with it going forward.

Gettin' into the weeds here.  Does natural immunity have any consideration?

...asking that people confirm that they're vaccinated in order to participate.

Eric,
I understand and appreciate your concern. That's a tough decision for you to make.

At what level is "participate"? Would this only be registered tournament participants? What about spouses, children and other visitors that attend the potluck and awards function? Would they have to show proof of vaccination too?

Who would be in charge of making sure everyone at the event location has the jab?  Who has the power to keep not-participants from being at the location of the event?

Before anything,
I will say that I have had both my shots (Moderna) and will be getting my booster in January.

With that said, here is my take ....
What a person chooses to put into their body is their choice not ours.
There are many arguments both for and against a vaccine mandate, but I do not feel this is the place for a debate
However,
Science shows that neither of the current vaccines will guarantee any individual would Not be able to contract or spread Covid after being administered any current vaccine.
The best it can 100% say is that if vaccinated you may have lesser or weaker symptoms
At the very least allow participants to have an option of either a vaccine or a current negative test.
Whatever is decided, I'm sure all involved will have a great time
Good Luck

If it’s your tournament and you want to limit it to vaccinated folks that’s entirely your prerogative.

There isn’t a way to stop unvaccinated folks from coming to shelter cove, but they won’t be competing for any of the prizes or glory.

I could see the potluck being an issue, measures would need to be taken to have only one controlled point if ingress and egress to limit the participants to only those that have been vaccinated.  The campground might not be a good candidate for potluck location for that reason.

The pole is worded kind of oddly because who really gives a shit if you are in favor of it?  The real question is would you attend such a tournament or not.

I understand the concern of the virus spreading among participants at tournaments. But how do your prevent from someone participating
who is a member of NCKA and wants to fish but does want to take the vaccination, or has a real problem showing proof of the vaccine. And how do you isolate sightseers/ residents  from everyone. And how much authority do you give someone keeping the unvaccinated out.  I just read that business’s cannot order people to take the vaccination. Don’t get me wrong I truly enjoy Shelter Cove, and I’ve taken my shots. I caught the virus last December, I caught the more serious version of it. It lasted over 5 months. My doctor called me a long termed.

If it is an all outdoor event, I’m not sure I’d worry about it too much. Vaccinated or test seems to be the acceptable compromise for a lot of places, especially outdoor venues. Unless there is a state or local law that dictates one way or another, it would seem a prudent conservative approach would suffice.

I don't have answers for your specific questions about how to enforce...etc.  I just wanted to put a feeler out to see how people react to the issue being focused on.  To me the most important consideration is for the community of Shelter Cove.  People can do whatever they want, and that includes how I don't wish to bring a huge crowd to the Cove when the virus is still a major problem basically everywhere.

Thanks for contributing to the discussion.

Without getting into it too deep I would participate regardless of the requirements. I’m not sure what the local regs are for that county, and they always seem to be a moving target anyways, but I would think that as long as you stuck with whatever the local rules are that would suffice.

For voting I didn’t vote. I would be in favor of a vaccine or test option, which wasn’t on the list.
