General Talk / Los Padres Dam
« on: October 14, 2007, 08:31:23 PM »
Can anyone tell me when the fishing window is open for los padres dam? I do know that you can only use artificial bait. Is it open for fishing now? And what species. Thanks. Bulldog :smt001

What time is everyone to meet? Bulldog is interested :smt007

Can you enlighten a newbie with info as to where coral st. is? :smt001

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Coyote reservoir
« on: October 10, 2007, 12:08:46 PM »
I fished straight out of the boat ramp and south. Would have liked to fish towards the damm, but i took a very small kayak and the wind was a bit much.

It really is great for fishing this year with the boat launch closed. No power boaters or skiers. :smt001. Paddlers heaven.

Unfortunatly not a good fishing report from coyote resevoir in gilroy. :smt010

Was a great morning of yaking though. Snuck in a few hours of paddling time before work. :smt001

Pulled all types of artificial and even bait with no love. :smt007

There was one interesting point in which it was clear skies at about 8 am. Then out of know where this huge low flying cloud with a strong breeze behind it rolls in. I thought i was at moss landing fishing for salmon for awile. :smt044

B.T.W., There is quite a bit of construction going on there. The campgrounds are closed as well as still the boat launch. You can still hand launch. Coyote is a great lake. the only thing that is missing that would be nice, would be showers!

I fear the force is weak with you right now pnub. You must learn the ways of the del valle masters. They shall come to you in do time. :smt044

Same hear! I went to san luis reservoir the other day and was skunked. there's always next time. :smt001  yeeeee  haaaa!

« on: October 04, 2007, 06:41:14 PM »
Love to hear of some good cooking suggestions for striped bass.

And i am not talking about cooking the bass on a oak plank for 1 hour until fork tender and throwing away the bass and eating the oak plank!! :smt044

Thanks for the reply! :smt006

So is it credit for the top three positions in each species?

Of course I am considering registering for next year. I know i'm good, but not that good to win this year. :smt044

I read the point system for the various species.

Do you only receive points for the lagest species on each outing?

Who do you post your results to to receive credit?

Thanks for your help and input.  Bulldog(Al)

Thanks for the info pk.

I see all the great photo's of you all with some great halibut. Hoping to experience that soon from a kayak. If not, there is always next year.

There is still fresh water though. Hoping to get out to san luis reservoir this weekend!! :smt007

That it very true. I have been a fisherman on the ocean for over 15 plus years. So, maybe it does come to me a little more easier. And of course i do carry as much safety gear as possible. vhf, hand held gps, maps.

Thanks for the reply Pelican.

I am really STOKED right now. I just returned from my first ocean yak trip. Launched out of Moss Landing : :smt007

I paddled out and north. Pulled some squid just off the bottom. The swells were about two feet with an occasional larger one. So it was kinda rough and the coffee i had before i left, didn't quite like me about a half hour into it. But, the Bulldog braved it through for about another hour and a half. No luck, but what a great feeling. Would have stayed longer but, have work today at 1pm.

I must say that i was a little apprehensive about going alone and thinking about the guy you referr to as the "Landlord". I must say though, if anyone is a little nervous just do it!! I felt comfortable pretty fast. :smt001

Future Angler of the Year 2008 baby!! :smt003 :smt003

thanks brian. pretty much what i was thinkin! anyone ever catch a striper in a yak near moss? :smt001
