Wanted To Buy / Want to buy a kayak trailer
« on: March 16, 2024, 10:09:01 AM »
I'm interested in purchasing a trailer for my Hobie outback kayak.  The models I'm currently looking at new are the Malone EcoLight, Trailex Aluminum Trailer, or maybe a Yakima model.  Let me know if anyone has any good quality trailers they are looking to sell.  Thanks!

I often like to bass fish in and around Los Gatos creek and noticed there were 2 conflicting regulations for that creek, so I submitted a message to let the CDFW know about the conflict in regulations.  I was surprised how quickly they responded back with the following message and immediately updated the regulations for 2024 that are live on the CDFW website.  I felt like sharing this positive experience with the department because of how quick they sorted out the issue.

Good afternoon ---,

This is in response to your concern about the regulations in Title 14 7.50(b)(81) and 7.40(b)(47). As you correctly pointed out, the two regulations as written did conflict. Fortunately, staff has been working to address this issue, and updates to the regulations effective 1/1/24 have addressed this issue.

This regulation change amends Section 7.50(b)(81) to the following – “Los Gatos Creek (Santa Clara Co.) upstream of Vasona Lake dam including Lexington Reservoir and all tributaries.” This regulation change replaces “Camden drop” with “Vasona Lake Dam.”

This map highlights the change in regulations. Please disregard the word “proposed” as these changes have been approved and are now considered in effect.

I think barely anyone follows the barbless artificial only rule here (last summer I got a video of someone spearfishing in the creek lol) and especially not in Lake Vasona, so I also asked about adding signage and they responded saying they have passed on the comment to the relevant parties.

General Talk / Spearfishing in Los Gatos Creek
« on: July 04, 2023, 08:04:21 PM »

Yesterday I was doing some bass fishing near Los Gatos creek and saw someone spearfishing in the creek.  He was with his kid who was filming from the shore, definitely illegal, but I didn't want to get involved with someone holding a speargun.  In the future does anyone know if there is a phone number I should call to report such things?  I've ran into a few people doing illegal stuff in the past like using a cast net in local lakes or barbed hooks on barbless waters and let them know it wasn't allowed, but I was slightly worried to anger this guy since I was alone.  Other than that the weather was beautiful and I got a few fish to take the jig I was throwing.

I was thinking heading out of Half Moon bay would be my best bet for a first outing, but I wanted to get some advice on the wind and swell forecast.  To me 6ft @ 7 seconds sounds pretty bad, so I don't think I should go this weekend, but I was curious what limits folks set for themselves when it comes to the forecast and when is it too rough to head out?  Thanks!

Use case is storing salmon, halibut, or lingcod (if I can catch them that is!). My current idea is to buy a large size "Feelfree" fish cooler and attach it to the bow of my Hobie Outback https://www.feelfreeus.com/products/feelfree-camo-cooler-bag?variant=31999314788491

Length 35.4"
Width 16.75"
Height 7"
Weight 3.4 lbs
Volume 67.9 Liters
Unfortunately it looks like they don't ship to California, so I'd need to spend a bit extra to get it from my local shop: https://www.calkayak.com/feel-free-fish-bag-large.html?id=67198501 (not a huge issue), but I was curious before purchasing, does anyone have any experience with this cooler? or recommendations for coolers with a similar price point (<$120)?  :smt001

Introductions / Hello everyone
« on: July 01, 2022, 11:44:21 PM »
Hey all!  I have enjoyed fishing since I was a little one targeting bluegill, but more recently I've gotten into kayak angling.  I bought myself a Sea Eagle fta385 inflatable since I lived in an apartment with tiny elevators that would never fit a hardshell and I enjoyed the heck out of it.  I added extra rod holders and a fish finder and caught a few bass in local Bay Area freshwaters.  I then decided it was time to try saltwater and man it was exhausting with any wind I was out of energy fast, so I stuck to freshwater wishing I could head out to the ocean.  2 years later I finally got a new place this time with a garage! so I stopped by the California Canoe and Kayak shop and picked myself up a 2022 Hobie Outback and I couldn't be more happy with it.  I've had it for 1 week now and took it out on the delta for it's maiden voyage and hooked up on some decent striped bass trolling an a-rig.  My next goal is to try to catch a fish launching in Santa Cruz or Half Moon bay!  I hope to see you all out there!
