General Fishing Tips / Nomad Design vibes for rockfish and lings
« on: February 16, 2023, 10:29:15 AM »
Hello all,

Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience using the Nomad Design vibe type lures. I feel like these would be great for RF and lings, a slightly different presentation than they've likely seen before. The addition of rattles and thus sound is intriguing. What does everybody think?

For anyone interested these are the lures I'm talking about:

For Sale / Shimano TLD15 reel
« on: May 31, 2022, 08:49:42 PM »
I have a nearly new Shimano TLD15 reel for sale. Used for halis once and for lings once as well. Thought I was going to be doing some trolling but for a variety of reasons that's not happening. A bit overkill for what I need. The reel is spooled with 30lb mono that is also new. Reel taken care of after use 9.9/10 cosmetically and internally. I'm asking $150, willing to consider trades. PM me for more pictures or questions.

General Talk / Alaskan Salmon For Sale
« on: June 24, 2021, 08:28:01 AM »
Hello NorCal kayak anglers,

I recently got a job in Ketchikan, Alaska working on the commercial fishing boat Lea, trolling for King and Coho Salmon. While we haven’t left the harbor yet, I thought I’d make this post to let y’all know that we will be selling our catch of salmon and potentially some Halibut and Black Cod as well. For anyone interested we do single orders shipped to your door with a minimum of 10lbs per order as this is a small business operation. To make an order email Rob Bateman at blueseafoodsllc@gmail.com.

Hope to hear from some of y’all,

Jackson (TheChungusAmongUs)

Hit Phoenix lake today from 4pm-sunset with some good results. All fish seemed to be shallow, caught lots along the bank just outside the grass edge with a dropshot, squarebill crankbait, jig and T-rigged creature bait. Caught a ton of fish, probably ended up landing close to 30. Despite the insane numbers, all the fish were small, with the largest probably just over the 2lb mark. Did see  couple bigger fish cruising along just outside the weed line but they were wise to my tricks. If I could restart the day with my knowledge I would only throw a jig and a swimbait to try and get a bigger bite, was really frustrated not to pick up any better fish but that's that challenge.

General Talk / Stinson Beach Halibut
« on: April 08, 2021, 10:58:53 AM »
Hello All,

Ended a hike out at Stinson Beach a week or so ago and I got curious if there is good halibut fishing there. Its a nice sandy and gradually sloped beach which has all the hall marks of good halibut fishing but I haven't heard about it as a halibut destination. I'd imagine that you could launch from the Bolinas side where the waves tend to be a bit smaller. Anyone have any intel about the hali bite and launching?

General Fishing Tips / Drop shotting for halibut
« on: February 24, 2021, 04:40:11 PM »
Hello all,
Seeing the posts recently about halibut fishing has me wondering if anyone catches halibut consistently drop shotting soft plastics like you would for largemouth. That's pretty much it, I've heard of people doing it down south in LA in harbors and in the surf and was curious if anyone in the Bay does it.

Wanted To Buy / WTB ugly stik tiger conventional rod or equivalent
« on: November 06, 2020, 11:02:05 AM »
Just looking for a slightly lighter rod for stripers, halibut, rockfish etc. I love my Tiger spinning rod so I used that as a point of reference but I'd consider any decent rod between $50-$80, unfortunately the budget is tight at the moment.

Introductions / Hello Everyone!
« on: November 05, 2020, 03:30:06 PM »
Hello fellow Yank anglers,

First off I want to thank redditor u/JuniorMancini for telling me about this site, I'm stoked to be here.

I am quite new to the kayak angling scene but having been kayaking for years all around the state, mostly in SF Bay. I bought my first fishing kayak a few months ago, a WestMarine Pompano 120, and have been out a few times up in Mendocino but mostly down in SF Bay. I've targeted rockfish, lingcod, stripers and halibut although with mixed success for the last two species.

I'm located in Marin County, and always down to meet new fisherpeople and go fishing if I've got the time.

Tight lines and be safe!!
