For Sale / Deeper Sonar Pro - NIB - $80
« on: September 29, 2022, 02:57:28 PM »
I have an unopened and sealed Sonar Pro castable fishfinder. I bought this for my father to use in his trout pond last Christmas and, sadly, he passed away before he got to use it.

Here's info on what it is and how it works. It's ideal for anyone with a pond, shore-fisherman, surf-fisherman, etc.

https://deepersonar.com/us/en_us/products/deeper-smart-sonar-pro

They go for $150 - $180 online. I'd sell for $80. Item is in Santa Rosa, but could either ship or NCKA Express.

AOTY / AOTY Rule 8 and 9 - don't cut those throats!
« on: June 28, 2022, 07:27:12 AM »
Just a reminder post to all participating in AOTY to familiarize yourself with rules 8 and 9. We're seeing quite a few submissions with the throats cut or ripped out. While I'm certain the participants are only doing this to protect the meat and are making efforts to legitimately measure the fish in it's natural state/length, we have to reject these. Rip the gills, don't cut the throat!

As a first year judge / third year participant and having discussed this with another judge, the last thing we want to do is turn away a fish. Especially some of the big ones. I'm posting rules 8/9 below and highlighting some of the language that is leading to most of the problems. Any questions, feel free to DM me, 3$j or any of the judges.

To those with a fish rejected - Go get a bigger one; cheering for you!

8.) Posing Rule - All fish should be posed in a manner that allows the committee to easily determine the length, mouth open/closed status and legality. All fish must be measured on their side, with the exception of Sturgeon, Catfish, and Cabezon which may be measured with their belly facing down. Submissions should show the mouth of the fish completely closed. If the mouth is not completely closed, the committee will deduct 1 inches from the measured length (unless the mouth cannot be completely closed due to a natural deformity or kype/hookjaw). Participants should make a good faith effort to close the fish’s mouth and egregious “mouth-open” submissions will be rejected at the discretion of the committee. Fish may NOT be gutted, have their throat cut or ripped through, or manipulated in any way prior to photographs being taken. Cutting of gills is permitted. Tails may be pressed together or tilted. You are not allowed to stretch, pinch or pull the lips to gain extra length. No lip grippers, game clips or stringers can be in the mouth when photograph is taken. Continued violations of the posing rule may result in the disqualification of the competitor.

9.) Measurement Rule - All submissions should include accurate, full length measurements of the fish, and be measured on a hawg trough, measuring board or similar measuring device. All entries must be rounded down to the nearest hash mark that can be visibly seen, using quarter inch increments. For any submissions where an extender or similar device is used, the competitor must submit photographic evidence verifying the length of the extension. The committee strongly recommends competitors use a sharpie on measuring devices that have hash marks which are not clearly marked. All submissions will be subject to committee approval before appearing as official entries. There may be a few days lag between the time you post a submission and the time it appears on the AOTY site.

For Sale / lowered price - Sportspal X13 Square Stern Canoe
« on: March 29, 2022, 04:51:50 PM »
2018 Meyers Sportspal X13, square stern canoe. I used this primarily for duck hunting in the delta. It's in a condition that shows it's use, but not leaking.

13' long, 38# beam, 28.5" transom. Weighs 72# (hauled in my truck as if it's a smaller, lighter Outback). rated for 475# and 4 people (2 is better) and 2HP. I had a 6hp on there and it flew (though not safely, that was too heavy). MSRP is ~2k plus freight. I'd like $700 OBO.

I have registration and Quagga stickers good through '23. More pics for those interested. Located in Davis.

For Sale / Selling fishing rods I don't use
« on: March 23, 2022, 04:37:22 PM »
Well, if you recall the Island of Misfit Toys, that's kind of what this collection of rods is. Just stuff I don't use anymore and they were collecting dust. I'll probably update this and add a few kokanee set ups and perhaps a reel or two). But for now, here's the goods and description. Local pick up / NCKA Express / I fish the bay area and will be on the Sonoma Coast next week and Clear Lake mid April (for starters).

Descriptions in the order pictured. More pictures available on request / via PM

Limit Creek LCSE83MLF - This is a like new, flawless 8'3" spinning rod that is extendable (or collapsable to 6'3"). Meaning the first section above grip slides down into the grip. This is generally considered a bobber-fishing rod where length is key to picking up slack. Made in MN and generally used for Walleye. Works well here for Crappie. Med-light, Fast action. 4-8# line; 1/8 - 1/2oz. details here: https://www.limitcreek.com/SpinningRods.html  Retail $129. Listing: $40.

Ugly Stick Tiger 7' MH  30-60 line 1 - 8oz lure. Used just a time or two for dragging cannonballs. Caught 3 salmon on it. Retail: $70 - my price: $30 - SOLD

BPS Crankin' Stick. 6'6" bass caster. MH / Fast.  Retail $60 -  my price $20

St Croix Tidemaster TIC70MLF. Conventional, inshore casting rod. 8-14# line. Retail : $160 - my price $80 SOLD

St Croix Premier PS66MHF2 - This is a 6'6" Spinning Rod, 2 piece. Med Heavy; Fast action. REPAIRED. A fish wrapped and snapped the tip. So i glued a new tip/guide on. It's now 6'4". Since it was broken, I'd part with it for $20 (retail is $185)

Will negotiate. Would sell all remaining (Tidemaster & Ugly Stick Sold) for $50. Just need to declutter my fishing equipment explosion (and of course, more is on the way).

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Doran 11/30
« on: November 30, 2021, 08:46:37 PM »
Two of us (me +TwoPatch) gave it a go to find some dungies at Bodega today. It was a grind! We launched around 830 (late start due to crazy traffic on Hwy 37) and it took us until 230 to get our 20 dungies. We mostly focused on 40' (+/- 10') and were > 1.5 miles away from the jetty.

Last week it took 12 pulls to get double limits in the same area. Today it took around 50. (R.I.P. my shoulders).  It was slow and we had to cover a lot of ground to find our keepers. Still a good grade with a few just shy of 7" in the mix.

Beautiful day on the water with a bit of wind kicking up around 11. (I've tried several times to turn this picture different ways before importing. i give up. You can get the idea. :) )

For Sale / Daiwa Lexa-WN 300HS [SOLD]
« on: October 06, 2020, 05:24:21 PM »
This reel is in fantastic condition. It's been used maybe 6 times in the past and I just put new bearings in it. It has 40# braid on it (I believe it's PowerPro).

Selling as I've gone to a one-reel quiver for simplicity.

These retail for $200, will part with for $140 with a meetup (i'm in Davis, but fish the coast frequently). $150 shipped. If not a fair price, will negotiate. But will probably want to wait a day or two to determine market.

For Sale / Lamiglas X11 - LX79BC - SOLD
« on: July 16, 2020, 12:24:36 PM »
used twice for salmon jigging in Sac River. Flawless condition, moderate action, 7'9".  Handles 1 - 6 oz baits. Would work well for bouncing bottom for Halibut and lings, as well. I just don't need it.

Description from Lamiglas site:

LX79BC – 1-piece rod that back-bounces for salmon very well, very sensitive tip and an excellent “hover” option. Striper and largemouth fishermen are also throwing swim-baits with this model with success!

MSRP: $110. Will sell for $65. Pickup or meetup only (Davis, Sac, HMB, Bolinas, ARW... maybe points in between).

List on Amazon is $223. Sell for $130 OBO - pickup in Davis or can meet in Sacramento, Bolinas, HMB or somewhere similar when the fish are biting and the seas are calm.

Could ship for cost ($15?).

« on: September 17, 2019, 08:59:44 PM »
I've decided to upgrade my Compass to an Outback. The Compass has to go. It's a 2018 in average condition. Bit of beach rash and some scuffs, but nothing that impacts performance. There's over $800 of upgrades on this, including the following:

Turbo Fins
Square hatch installed (round hatch moved up front)
2 H Rails for additional mounting and handles for righting if capsized
Lowrance Hook2 5x fish finder (+ battery, holder, charger, cover, Ram ball mounting, etc)
2 map pockets
Scotty Rod holder + h rail mount

I've got $3,075 into this. I'm selling for $1,875 OBO. Cart is NOT included.  Boat is located in Davis. I can email or text more pics or pics without the Photobucket watermarks.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Tomales tides?
« on: June 08, 2019, 12:09:39 PM »
i was planning my first trip to Tomales tomorrow to try to find a halibut and meet up with some friends later for oysters at Hog Island. Looking at the tide charts, it's a pretty big tide.  Having not fished there, can someone with experience let me know your thoughts on this? Looks like it will be pushing out to sea all morning and then coming in hot. I was going to launch at Miller's.

https://tides.mobilegeographics.com/locations/8281.html

Was going to launch by 630. Looks like 4 feet of water heading out. Thanks for any guidance!

Places to Launch and Camp / Muir Beach
« on: August 02, 2018, 09:36:58 PM »
how is the launching at Muir Beach? i'm reading that it doesn't open until later in the morning, but thinking about trying it on Sunday. Is the path down easy enough to navigate with a cart? is the break manageable?

Any guidance for a newbie would be appreciated.

also, if anyone is open to joining... more than welcome.

Introductions / Hello from Davis
« on: July 31, 2018, 05:32:41 PM »
Good evening.

My name is Corey. I'm a 45 year old father of 2 and fisherman from Davis. I've been lurking for a while and decided to jump in.

I'm new to ocean kayaking and hoping to go for my first trip later this week or next, depending upon the seas (SF area for salmon). I'll be using a Hobie Compass for that.

I've been duck hunting the delta out of a kayak (Native Ultimate) for the last 4 years. But figured I need to add some more year round activities and fishing the salt is where i'll start. Looking forward to meeting some of you and hopefully, seeing you on the water.
