Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Mounting thru hull transducer« on: July 03, 2022, 04:50:31 PM »
Marine goop is a good choice, but if you want to remove it, it can be a pain. Getting the goop to release from the kayak is difficult but doable; getting the goop off the transducer is where the fun really begins...

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: glands for transducer and power cables« on: July 03, 2022, 04:46:38 PM »
The Hobie wiring kit has worked well for me, but these look like they'd be just as good for half (or so) of the Hobie price:

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Bluefin from inflatable Kaboat (repost)« on: July 01, 2022, 06:48:41 PM »
Amazing!
He seemed very nonchalant after gaffing it, so I'm assuming they never go berserk at that point. Anyways, it would be awesome to hook something like that on my AI, but that's a long battle 7
Craftsmen's Corner / Re: Adding side ama to my Adventure using PVC« on: June 29, 2022, 04:36:04 PM »Plan to build a custom trampoline or board or the side ama. Any tips/suggestions on materials are appreciated. I always thought that I'd try to make my own trampoline out of bungee cord, by weaving it into a mesh. I like the idea of it not catching wind, and I think if it is stretched tight enough, it'll would work just as well as any cloth. Does that sound totally crazy? 8
General Talk / Re: Reflection« on: June 29, 2022, 04:31:31 PM »
I feel like I've known more than my share who died of self-inflicted non-accidents. It started with my best friend in high school, and most recently, a close colleague at work just a few years ago. For me, those are the saddest of all, as it always seems like there should have been something I could have done to prevent it...

General Talk / Re: Garmin Striker 4 power corrosion - Solved!« on: June 28, 2022, 02:44:55 PM »Silicone seal it.. cut the power cable and put it a weather connector at the splice.. for removal. Nice. I use those same connectors for my battery box, inside the hull. But, I'm not sure I'd trust them in a wetter environment. For outside the hull, I think these are prolly much more likely to hold up in the long run: https://www.amazon.com/YETOR-Waterproof-Connectors-Connector-Extension/dp/B07WDBLFDN/ 10

Introductions / Re: New kayak angler« on: June 27, 2022, 04:10:23 PM »Gaithersburg, I used to go to little seneca lake a lot but also been to triadelphia reservoir a couple times where you probably more familiar with. I still don't get why MD people call striper "rockfish" haha I did go to Triadelphia often but, strangely, never fished there. Most of my MD fishing was in nearby trout streams. In our part of MD, they stocked trout everywhere, even in urban areas. 12

For Sale / Re: Hobie Collapsible Flag - 30% off at REI« on: June 27, 2022, 12:22:22 PM »
I have one almost identical to that, but it doesn't say "Hobie". I think I paid about that same price ($70, maybe $75) when I bought it a few years ago.
While I'm the world's biggest Hobie fan-boy, I'm not a fan of this light/flag. First, it's too short. Second, I've broken the pole a couple of times, and now it's even shorter than it was, as I had to cut off the fiberglass splinters. Third, the light itself died fairly quickly, so I got one of these, and bolted it to the top https://www.rei.com/product/109954/petzl-noctilight-headlamp-case I insert my headlight into that thing, and I think it works as well as the original light ever did. Btw, if you just want the light, I believe this is it https://www.amazon.com/YakAttack-VISILight-female-threaded-connection/dp/B01LW3OAOA/ Anyways, if I had it to do over, I'd just get that headlight case, and make my own pole for it... 15

Welcome, JD.
Whereabouts in MD were you located? I lived in the Clarksville area for 7+ years, way back when, but didn't fish much there. When we moved here, it took a while for me to realize that "rockfish" had taken on a completely different meaning...
