Hey Ben. It's Tim. Good to see you. Still remember meeting you almost two decades ago in PP Harbor. There is a fish bopper on my wall here ten feet away from me that i think you carved.  Hope you're good.

Just went back in time and read that long thread Mooch started in 2011. Cool to see the old posts. What I remember is Adam (fishhunter), catch and release only, got hit from below and at one point was holding onto his yak on one end while the shark was biting the other end, eye contact maybe. Adam was happy to show pictures and talk about it. The year before a guy, shark attack Dan, got hit at the same time and place as Adam. He did not want to talk about it and maybe even quit using this site. Bushy warned us way back then. I know a guy with a wife and kids that surfs Ano Nuevo. I think it would be a terrible way to go.

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Re: Albion open 2023

I saw Sean's name here as an organizer. A guy named Sean use to run the Albion event. He used to post  here every day  but haven't  seen him for years. Maybe something happened and he stopped posting. A long time ago I crashed the party and he had no problem taking ten bucks to drink off his keg. We had that event in Elk for a couple years. The locals made us invite them to our partyand it was all good for a while.I think it was too much to see fifty kayaks fishing in their front yard. Exit to Albion.

Hojo Man, I always click on your funnies, I'm gonna crash the party at Alameda Sunday. Saw Chuckie thre last year. The lot is always full but there is another big empty one just north. Really easy. Google map it. You just turn into the base NE of the launch entrance. Last year I caught a big ass leopard and a baig ass bat Ray. Lettum go and my arms were sore.Hope you're good. Mr. Magoo

Throw this in the blender. It's prime time for Bolinas/Rocky point right now too.

If you are set on going to HMB, Like one guy said, watch the traffic. It's not difficult at all. Just stay close to either jetty and away from the middle at the jaws. Be ready to put your nose into lots of boat waves if you don't want to take them on the side.  The outside by the horn is fine. Just reefy as you go west. You'll see the boats and their highway they take. You could also go to the inside jetty towords the beach it just gets kind of shallow and kelpy. There is some history of dumb yackers paddling right into the middle of the jaws. Also of big boats giving yackers large wakes on purpose. Just pick a line on either side and get through the jaws quickly. It really is easy if you do it right. Hope you hook up!

5' at ten seconds meams there is a signicant ground swell from old waves from far away. Usually the wave sets could  have  minutes between sets. Good for surfers. Good at PP also as long as you stay away from shallow water. Rookies might take a right at the jaws thinking it looks good. A set could come in and surprise you when you're over a reef and it's a yard sale. Ever been out in the ocean and have other boats disappear and reappear, even though it very calm? That's a ground swell. All you have to do is stay away from boat traffic, especially at the jaws and troll down to the bouys. That's why they are there, all boats are supposed to go down there before they take a right. Five feet five seconds are smaller local waves that are close together. Not to bad but could be a pain. The further south you go the more you are exposed from the protection from Pillar Point. Again, to make my point, Five feet 20 seconds, waves could be as big as a house. It's not the same now, but the wind always use to kick up about eleven. Can be some work paddling north against it. Big tides this weekend too.

Hey Bushy. I remember you are in the media down there, just the radio part. I just looked at all the papers you are with. I forgot. So, grabbed a WON from the Berkeley bait shop, don't read it often, might have to now. Saw your piece about up north and the King Kandy. What a trip! I've heard of that company beforeand I just looked it up. Point Wilson is a lighthouse at Port Townsand. We have a family cabin just south of there in Hansville at Driftwood Key. Last fish my dad caught was up there in his boat with me up by PT. It was a local DK derby. We almost placed. Best local spt is another lighthouse at Point No Point. The derby winner caught there at Skunk Bay. Late summer people catch coho there off the beach, fly fishers too. Skunk Bay Weather is a great website. Good for watching fishers in fast motion and a million good links. My childhood summer spot, Tulalip Bay is about 30 miles east of there on the mainland, the other side of Whidbey Island. There is a bubble fishery there too, terminal like HMB. Back to WON, Late high school memories from Seattle. Had a couple buddies selling subscriptions cold calling on the phone. They had good stories about guys that wanted one and their wives nixed it. One buddy got fired for stretching the truth, Good times.

Hey Bushy. Arn't you Santa Cruz Allan?  I'm Mr. Magoo. We met a time or three. You told me you were with UCSC student housing. Only time I remember seeing you, you were sitting with Papa Bill, who moved to Texas, at the VHW hall in Princeton when we had an event there. When you chimed in about Ketchikan, it remended me of you guys going up there somewhere and slaying salmon sharks. Where did you catch those?
I read up on those fish and it said people catch them as bicatch fishing for Halibut. My sister just bought a house on Prince if Wales Island. In Hollis near the Ferry from Ketchikan. Went up there last year and fished out of Craig on a charter. Gonna ask those guys about those sharks. Hope you still have some chinook down there when it opens. BTW my sister has grand ideas of renting her house out as a base, especially for kayakers. She lives in Idaho.

Just remembered that Joel had accepted a job in Alaska in the fishing industry. He was excited about it. Don't recall where it was. Maybe I'll look that up some day. I'd remember if it was Bristol Bay. That sockeye season hopefully is booming right now. It was when he did not go that we all found out he was sick. BTW, I believe he was mis-diagnosed and they did not figure out, until too late, he had breast cancer, which is what he died from.

Got to post. Need to read members reports. Maybe my last Mooch story. Before he left us, we had a big party at HMBK. Fundraiser to cover expenses. I remember him showing me and my kid his van that he was living in. Only time I remember hanging with Big Jim. His family had a tent we were hanging out by. So they called my name in the raffle and I hollerd at my kid to go get it. It was a net, and instead of her waking through the crowd back to me, she took an exit stage left and ran straight into the water to try the net out. I think the word was we made 10k for Joel.

Best frenzie I remember was at Deep Reef about 20 years ago. Tons of birds, bait and whales. We smelled the whales bad breath most of the time we were there. Got limits quickly. Mooching, 100 pulls and up came a 13 lb chinook. So much action we snared at least two muirs in the line with a fish on. Had to reel the bird in and grab the line below the bird and grab the tight line with the fish on to get slack to untangle the bird. Can't remember if it was two or three times. Do remember we got the fish each time. Only got one or two bigger the the cookie cutter size. I think we might have had our six in the box, having a beer, and my buddy couldn't resist putting an anchovie out on a trout rod. Got hooked up and couldn't get it in. He was walking back on his whaler, then running forward to real in line. Maybe a half hour, thought it should go 20lbs. Finally got it to the boat. Foul hooked! Same size as the rest.

Haven't been to the beach much lately. Yesterday lots of birds and bait in Pillar Point harbour and north of the point. Saw a real intense feeding frenzie at the north end of Montara. Goods signs.
