Zeelander, you're right.  I had a friend measure his X-Factor and he gave me the location to his rod holder that he mounted up by the bow hatch.  His was not a Fish n Dive so he did not have the side mounted ones by his knees.

I just talked to the designer over at Malibu and he said the front rod holders are also intended for the child passenger to use.  So bsteves is on the right track.  Bring a helper and get the whole family involved.

Question... that square center hatch... is it possible to somehow stuff a 6.5 foot rod in there while seated, or would you have to shimmy up front and use the Gator hatch?

If you can, it's not going to be easy on the water.  Once you got the rod inside (if you can), getting it out may be really tough.  You actually can't use the front hatch area for rod storage unless you do some modifications.  The front hatch is not like other kayaks.  It's actually a wet well and a great place to stow your catch.  Under that hatch cover, it is an enclosed area with a scupper hole just like a rear well, but it has a hatch cover over it.

The best way to stow your rods inside the X-13 is to do some modifications to the bow well.  Malibu Kayaks reccommends sealing off the scupper hole that's inside the well and then cutting out the rear wall.  If you are doing this modification, you must also put a seal around the hatch opening to turn the whole setup into a semi-dry hatch. I say semi-dry because kayak hatches are rarely ever really dry.  I know it sounds scary, but supposedly it's been done with good results.

Lets try this again, hopefully with better luck this time. :smt003  I know it is a semi-threadjack but I was hoping for an answer.  I'd love to buy it from Outback if they carry it and can honor the discount.

Quick question Mr. Outback, do you guys carry Wheeleez kayak carts, specifically the Kayak Cart-Beach?  The Wheeleez website says that you're a dealer.  If so, does the NCKA 10% discount apply to this item?  Thanks!

Thanks again.

Michael

Hi Michael,

We do carry Wheeleez and have the Beach Cart in stock at both of the shops.  Of course the NCKA 10% discount applies.  We're glad to offer it.  Thanks for your business.  Sorry I did not see your post earlier.

Is there any way you can post a picture of the bottom of the yak?  I love the topside of that yak.

JTF..
Here are the hull pics you requested.  The first picture was taken from the bow and the second was taken from the stern.

I personally like the hull shape on the X-13. The keel is pronounced throughout it's entire length and the hull is very stiff and unlikely to oil can (dent and deform).

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
