Wanted To Buy / WTB: Rockfish ID Chart
« on: June 25, 2015, 10:44:44 AM »
Lost my rockfish ID chart and have been looking to replace it.  Unfortunately, it looks as though www.rockfishid.com is no longer a functioning domain name and haven't found much with the research I've done.

Did happen to stumble upon this handsome looking fellow though on the bottom left of the page.  I should probably know the other guy on the yak, but I don't.

Anybody have any leads where I can purchase another of the ID charts?  I could use one for myself and one for a buddy.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Not a hunter so don't know if any of these are good deals, but thought I'd pass it on.

For those not in the know, Mel Cotton's is located in San Jose.

Places to Launch and Camp / Monterey Charter Help
« on: August 15, 2013, 11:22:14 PM »
Hoping for some help from the Monterey and Santa Cruz folk.

My buddy chartered the Caroline out of Chris' Fishing Trips in Monterey and since I couldn't make Albion, I thought I'd take a spot in his group.

Anyway, I called the landing and was informed that we'll need 10 ounces of weight.  Granted, I don't do a fair share of party boat fishing, but this seemed like a substantial amount.  I realize the wind and the swell help determine how much weight we'll be using but this doesn't seem that bad:

NW WINDS 5 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 3 FT.
W SWELL 3 TO 4 FT AT 7 SECONDS. PATCHY FOG IN THE MORNING.

Last summer, I went out on the Velocity out of Santa Cruz in conditions worse than this and we used 3-4 ounces all day.

Any thoughts as to why so much weight?  Feel like I'm missing something here.  Thanks for any and all thoughts and opinions.

For Sale / Abu Garcia Revo Toro
« on: February 26, 2013, 12:54:38 PM »
I know some guys have shown interest in picking up either a Abu Garcia Revo Toro 50 or 60.

The Revo Toro 50 is $217.78 and the Revo Toro 60 is $225.55 at this site.  They are the HS (high speed) retrieve also.  Not exactly highway robber but pretty good if you don't want to be checking ebay on a regular basis.

Safety First / Wicking and Baselayers
« on: February 12, 2013, 11:35:41 PM »
I finally broke down and purchased a Kokatat paddling suit for all the ocean fishing I do! :smt044   Figure I want to be as safe as possible for the 1 or 2 times I am on the big blue.

Anyway, after trying to do some research on baselayers, I'm not any closer to deciding than before my investigation.  I've read about wicking layers and base layers however some of the new stuff does both all in one.  Some of you swear by polartec but after looking that up also, I'm confused.  Is it a technology, or a brand, or both?

Under my current Kokatat Tempest pant & jacket combo, I wear a Hot Chilly M's La Montana Bottom & Hot Chilly M's La Montana Panel Zip-T but wonder how warm it would keep me should I be fully immersed for some time.

I'm considering some Under Armour gear but want to know what you're wearing under your drysuit/paddling suit?

Thanks for any and all help.
