It finally laid down again and went for it. I fished two days straight and didn't hook a single cabezon. That's what I was targeting. Yesterday was the flatter day, I logged 5.5 miles and 6.5 hours in the seat. I did find some new rocks though, I pulled 3 vermilions off of one. The conditions were also unreal, it was euphoric just being out there with the sounds of the seabirds and dolphins breathing.
I think some of you know what I mean.

Nice report Juan. It's always nice to get out on the Pacific on those rare days when it really lives up to its name.

Nice report and pics, that bridge looks familiar I think thats one of the places I checked out while on vacation up there, supper easy launch, very protected, its first one my list after I make a few halibut tries in the bay :smt001

Those truly are the days that we wait for. Sorry about the cabs but, hey, whaddya want? Looks like an awesome day on the water. Like today. I should go ab diving after work. 30 min to shell beach. By the way nice reel!

I did think about you Brian with regards to the title, but it was also on my mind as I have been researching this critter. Trying to boost the odds of hooking one. Some day...
Something else I noticed with regards to barotrauma. I made a descender, an old bar with a single, large siwash ziptied upside down. It works! But, some fish I brought up from 90' that had their bladder partially out were able to swim down on their own. They would get away as I was getting ready to send them down on the bar. They'd be floating and when I tried to grab them for the bar they would spark to life and swim down quickly. It was calm and still. I would have noticed them floating back up. These were all gophers and chinas.
Just my observation.

Nice report and beautiful pictures ! You sure you were in the ocean , not some lake with bull kelp , that is the calmest I've ever seen the ocean . One day I'll catch it like that .

Man that gives the term FAC a whole new meaning. Nice explanation of the sounds. It's amazing when everything stops like that how you can hear all the animals that are out there. Truly a beautiful thing. Thanks for the pics Mako. I'm missing NorCal already!

I know the feeling of needing that cabbie bro......you need one of them-thars' BillsCustomCabbieBuster.....try to send down something that looks like it crawls around like a big crab....brownish=rt.beer scampi= when dragged/crawled over rocks.
I was targeting Cabbies, but was catching lings,verms and gophers...until PapaBill pointed me towards the light.
Thanks for the sweet pics....when you can see whole cloud reflections in the ocean...it's NICE no matter what you doing.

Great looking mirror Juan..I mean..water Juan.
Last time I was out I noticed that some fish could make their way down no probs and others I had to send down. These were caught from the same depths too.
Are some fish less susceptible to barotrauma than others or are some fish just studlier than others???

How about the trix jetty worm? It's my bait of choice when hunting cabs. Slap some shrimp or crawdad smelly jelly and you got a Cabby killer! :smt002

I was using that very same jig, the Trix Jetty. I left some in the kelp. The gophers and chinas love them, apparently.

The first one I hooked hung up in the kelp about eight feet below the kayak...........I told Patrick I was diving in after it, but it freed itself before that was necessary. They will find you eventually.

Beautiful conditions for a nap! Thanks for the report 'n photos Juan, that looks awesome. Did you try the Cabezon Éclair? When all else fails, I try a green (or orange, depending on the Ab's gender) and slimy Abalone gut chunk - it seems to be able to bring the Cabbies out of their nest for a bite.....
