Okay, I'm almost embarrassed to ask this next question...

Does pairing the above top with the tempest pants make me submersion ready? In other words, is this combo meant to keep me dry in the event I go overboard?

Yes... more or less.  It's a "Semi-dry top" and not a "Dry top" per se, in that it doesn't have a latex seal around the neck, but as far as kayaking gear goes, combined with the tempest pants you're as immersion ready as you could hope to be.

Woohoo! Mine arrived too! Boy they really are fast...

Wish I'd had it at Davenport - would have been a great test for it.

The seals are definitely snug, but I think I'll wear it a couple of times before I consider putting it under the xacto - just in case it eases a tad with use. I mainly worry that I could rip the seals when taking it off.

I've got a couple of full diving drysuits though, and they are pretty tough, so I'm sure these are too.
Just a walleye fisherman from MN tryin' ta get salty!

I've used a superbreeze for about four years.  I just replaced it this year since it was pretty much worn out.

My advice would be to get a "semi-dry" top, one that has an inner tunnel that can be tucked into the tempest pants, and good arm and neck seals.  I like the "semi-dry" tops because the neck gasket is usually adjustable rather than a latex gasket type neck seal that can be a bit much.

My new jacket was a great deal, an Extrasport Semi Dry top and it has been great.  There are some left here at a really good price if they have your size.  http://www.backcountryoutlet.com/outlet/JOP0091/Extrasport-Semi-Dry-Top.html?CMP_ID=SH_FRO002&CMP_SKU=JOP0091&mv_pc=r126

I also sell a Lamiglas dry top at my storefront that has similar features, but I can't compete with that price.

This thread is buried so deep maybe this wont help anyone, but there is one extrasport semi dry top left, it is size large and color yellow, its only $76, and it is at http://www.geartrade.com/item/105243

Hope this helps someone.
