These South African beauties just arrived at my house today for us to test paddle and review.  -- A big THANKS to Dino at MacSki!

If anyone wants to demo it, send me a PM to make arrangements.  The Kingfisher might be just the ticket to getting in and out of the surf.

Pretty cool chuck.  Do they use seats like traditional kayaks?

Hmmm....  Seems like your back would hurt after a long paddle w/o back support...

If and when the red one is ready for raffle I'll be ready..  :smt007 even if I have to come down from Seattle!!!  Like Chuck mentioned, Blasting through surf and fishing sounds like another really fun adventure. Looking forward to take it out for a spin someday! Woord! BTW, about how much do they weigh?

Z

Found the site, about 60 lbs. right?

ChuckE,

Are you trying to one up Sean with those imported beauties? I think they would both be very nice raffle prizes in Elk this year!

You may also want to try them on Lake Mendo, as it would really shorten both Sean and my commute.

CHEERS!

That's funny :smt003... Sean's Kaskazi Dorado is a different animal and it probably wouldn't be fair to compare the two.  The Dorado is shaped more like a touring kayak with faster and long range paddling in mind.

The MacSki Kingfisher is shaped more like an Aussie Rescue board with more volume in bow to deal with surf.  It also has flatter bottom for stability while fishing.

I got a chance to finally take one the water for the first time.  Unfortunately, it was just out in bay during a calm day and not the out in the surf.

Here are my first impressions:

1) It tracked better than I expected considering the flat bottom.

2) The flat bottom makes the ski very stable, however, it does glide slower as expected.

2) It turns nicely and is very maneuverable.  The fact that entire rudder assembly is underneat the boat and out of the way makes it less likely to snag your fishing line.  That's a major plus.

3) Sitting side-saddle is stable and very comfortable.  A lot of guys like myself like to fish from this position.

The true test for the MacSki is to take it out through the surf and catch a big fish from it.  Anyone game to give it a try?

Chuck - let's take 'em to Linda Mar or HMB for a test drive - let me know when your free.
I agree with Kevin - how's the back support on those things? Think it would be comfortable after 3 hours of sitting?

The new 2007 model is 60 lbs and cost just under $1400.

Dino with MacSki says there are few new 2006 models left which are selling for under $1000.  The 2006 models weighs 70 lbs, but according to MacSki, new mfrg processes will bring the weight down to around 50 lbs.

A backrest, paddle, and two rod leashes are also included with new MacSkis!

Sounds like a plan!

You can use the included backrest or use your own.  The ski has attachment points to accomodate standard backrests.
