So I am starting to gear up for this years rock fish and halibut season. And on one of my setups I want to have a line counter reel. Does anyone have any suggestions, experience or reviews that they would be willing to share so I can make an informed decision? Thanks for the help.

Daiwa Lexa 300, I hear they will be adding it to their 400 series soon. I like my Shimano Tekota as well.

Shimano tekota or Okuma Cold Water.

By the way, these two are at two different price point. Okuma Catalina is in the price range of Shimano Tekota, but inside parts are better than Tekota. Can't go wrong with either.

I have 2 okuma cold water low profiles. The round ones are garbage, but the low profiles are a much better reel.

I would go with Shimano Tekota. I loved that reel until I lost it at Bolina coming in when a wave knock me out :(
I also have the okuma coldwater. The line counter on it stopped working but their CS is good. I called last week and they are sending me a new linecounter to install (waiting to get it).
I wish the tekota comes in a left hand reel :(

I'm gonna use the okuma coldwater low profiles this year. They seem to be the best lefty LC on the market. I played with the daiwa sealine lefty in store and did not like it. I also have an old righty tekota but something was wrong with the drag before it was stolen.

I got an Okuma coldwater low profile for my birthday. I'll post a review after I've used it for a meaningful amount of time.

This year I started with one Okuma Coldwater Low Profile and now have 3. I have've been using them for trout trolling and will be switching for RF and Ling use. So far so good.

For light duty (trout, like, etc) I love my Diawa Sealine SG17LCA! Just picked another one for Fishaddict!! Hehehe
For Salt, I LOVE my shimano Tekota; and my Diawa Accudepth...

Great info. I am leaning towards a low profile Okuma or the Lexa. One big reason why is that they make a left hand retrieve. As far as the Okuma goes, what size are people running? I plan to put it on a medium or medium light action rod and use it primarily for vertical jigging.

There's only 1 size of the okuma low profile. I've used mine on everything from a 6-6 trevala for vertical jigging in the ocean to a 9-6 lamiglas for flat line trolling for trout, on an ugly stick for halibut, and on a light short trolling rod for Kokanee. It's a medium sized reel that sort of fits every rod.

As far as the Lexa the 300 is a far more manageable size and would be much more pleasant and versatile reel off the yak unless you have a compelling reason to get the bigger one. PM Fishingaddict and you will have a good answer on the Okuma by the end of the day;)

well okuma CS didn't come through on the part...its been a week. I'll give them another call tomorrow. Bummed was looking forward to fixing it and using it this weekend oh well.
I have the CW-354 DLX. Its a 300 size that holds plenty of line. The drag on it is rated at 25 lbs

Went and check the mailbox and saw a box from Okuma. They sent a new counter to install. I download the schematic on the reel so I can try and open it. Removed all the visual screws and still wasn't able to open the cover up. I tried to pry it gently but no dice so I just left it alone. I manage to wiggle the counter out on top and replace with the new one. All is good now :)

Daiwa sealine LC series are the standard IMO.
SG17LC is money.
