I was out alone (as usual), fishing N of San Simeon (as usual) and was playing with the schools of blue rockfish, with the olives mixed in. You know when the mixed schools come to your yak, you can target the big olives by looking for their striped backs? Has anyone else ever tried this? Anyway, they were hitting the leadhead jig 2 feet off my port side time and time again right at the surface, like a trout on a fly. One guy decided to release it right at the surface, and he (in reality I) managed to launch all of my terminal tackle into my eye and it stuck there. I reached up and gently felt around a could tell that the hook was in my eyelid, but not up to the barb (I was soo00 lucky :smt003 :smt003 :smt003) I gently slid it out and tried to wash the squid out of my eye. I finished out the day with my good eye, and gradually gained back the focus in the besquidded eye over a two week period.
Wear your sunglasses kids!

Hey, that's my favorite trout lure! :smt003
-
I did that once before as a kid. I had a roostertail tossed into a bush. I yanked and yanked to get my lure back. Well, I got it back all right. It shot straight to my face, and only by the grace of God did I shut my eye in time.
I ran screaming back to camp, sure I had a lure in my eye, but it was just lightly hooked to my eyelid. I was very lucky.

That is why I stay off the banks where the combat fishing is going on like Feather River afterbay. Too dangerous.

GAH!
Pirates might be cool and all, but I'm gonna continue to wear my sunglasses just the same... :glasses9:

:smt017 I guess my question is, did you not see the hook coming back at you? Or did it just happen so fast that you didn't have time to react?

Allen thanks for the photo. I will show it to Ty as soon as he gets home from school. being 15 and bullet proof I know my words go in one ear and out the other. Great teaching aid. I can see him jumping and squirming in my minds eye right now. Hopefully the guy healed oK. Randall

Polepole. It looks like that guy had more then a hook in the eye problem. His eyebrow is split wide open. what were the other injuries from. Did his wife beat him with his own pole? Randall

Gonna make sure I have a pair of glasses for cloudy days as well.

I have no idea who this is a photo of or what the story behind it is. It was recently posted on another site, actually a whole series of photos, but I posted the "best" one.
