DATE CHANGED TO AUGUST 13 AND FEATURES ADDED

This tourney will be the epic kayak fishing event of your year.  The fishing at Elk is unbelievably good.  This area is as untouched as it gets.

The tourney will based in Elk, at the Elk Community Center.  The Community Center has allowed us to bend the rules and camp on site for a small nightly fee.  The Communty Center has a commercial kitchen, flush potties, and an outdoor wood-fired bread oven.  The Community Center is directly accross the street from the launch.

The portage to the beach is not technical, but long and steep.  We will be working with the State Parks to have an ATV launch shuttle, but be prepared to cart it if this doesn't work out.  The launch can have surf, but nothing you guys can't handle.  Trust me, it will be worth it.

This will be a big ling/big rocky tourney.  We will not be weighing limits, I would like to respect this relatively pristine resource.  I would expect the winning ling to be over 25#.

Aside from the fishing there is unreal scenery and arch rocks etc.

THIS EVENT HAS NOW BEEN OFFICIALLY BLESSED BY THE ECC.  NEW FEATURES INCLUDE FISH TACO DINNER, CERVICHE CONTEST, AND YAK/FISHING MOVIES AT NIGHT IN THE ECC.

I will post more as the details come in, but book it NOW!

This means the heaviest fish wins, right?  Or will there be a RCG winner and a Ling Cod winner?

Kevin:

I'm not a 100% sure yet, but for now I'm thinking heavy fish wins.  I am considering some kind of second tier jackpot for heaviest RCG too though, its really up to you guys.  Of course heaviest fish in Elk will have a damn good chance of winning the annual jackpot as well.  If the tourney winnwer is a ling, this still be be a good place for people to catch an entry for the RCG annual jackpot.

great pic - reminds me of back home...In the Phillippines, we have a place called "Hundred Islands". It looks just like the pic above - only the Islands we have are actually inhabitable. I've never been there but I've had relatives who explored the area and brought back incredible stories & epic pics. They basically went Island hopping for a week and never got to hit every Island = just too many!  :smt023

:smt026 Awesome :smt026 , I glad to see some trips further north!  :smt023  I dive here alot (9" Ab's all day :snorkel ) and the fishing is certainly less impacted than the Ab diving.  It's a very small secluded town (a store, garage, coffee shop, community center) across the street is the parking lot to the entrance to the cove shown.  Greenwood beach the is the name of the actual launch, if you need to look it up.  You're also only 7-10 miles south of the town of Mendocino so that should help most of you get your bearings.  There's also camping just north at the Navarro river mouth on the beach  :camp (flat portage to the water), there's no where near the structure though!

This is definitely going to be the trip to remember for those of you who don't get up north much.  Epic north coast beauty!  Bar none.  From Ft.Ross north to Mendocino is some of our best coastline for fishing/diving because of access and structure.  I can't wait to see your faces when we get out there on the water.  This is definitely favorite place to get away from stress's of life and commune with nature. :worship  :kick

Ps :secret -this is also going to definitely test all of your best tow rigs/wheel setups as you'll need to cross some small gulleys, deep loose sand, downed logs/brush, etc.

thanks for letting me share,

Sean -if you need any help please don't hesitate to ask.

Loomy-Thanks for the excitement and I agree.  The trail down is actually a fairly well maintained fire road, but there is soft sand at the bottom.  We will try and get permission to use a quad and trailer, hopefully the park is cool about it.

Here's a link to an aerial shot of beach at Greenwood Cove, Elk.  If you blow up you can make out the road, the 4whl section to the sand and all the wonderful kelp beds :fishing2

This will also be the first weekend abs are open after the July closure.  Abs are abundant here.  My kid rock picked a 8.5 that was 2 feet out of the water last year!
