3 years ago my wife Robin was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma. She had surgery to remove it. The doctors wanted her on interferon. After doing her own research, she decided against treatment.
In November, the cancer came back, now stage 4. The doc said she made the right call about the interferon, turns out it doesn't work well for melanoma. Wants her on yervoy. Again after doing her research, she has opted against treatment. This is not a knock on modern medicine or "giving up." It is about her belief that her best odds are not with drugs.
She is exercising as much as ever, boosting her immune system and constantly sings "life is good today." She doesn't really see it as a battle or fight but rather trying to heal.
What our family needs right now is prayers and positive vibes.
thanks
Eugene

Bumping this to try and get some more positive energy, good vibes, thoughts, prayers etc for Robin...
e2g posted on FB a few days ago that an MRI revealed that the melanoma has spread and that she now has several tumors in her brain, and that thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated...
My heart is breaking for Robin and Eugene and Nathan and their whole family, and I have told Eugene and Nathan to just me know if there is anything that I or PIF can do to help out at all...
Sincerely,
Jim

thanks folks, it means a lot. BigJim, thanks for reaching out to Tracy, a mother/activist. She lost her son (and Nathan's classmate) to melanoma. She emailed us to ask if she could help and literally we were trying to sort out a huge SNAFU on the referrals to get into UCSF for brain surgery/radiation consult. She emails her contacts and in a day, we have the appointments, and we are good to go. The relief in not having to deal with that is HUGE.
Robin has been on a new drug Keytruda for about a year, better known as the "jimmy carter" drug. Worked for him, not so much for Robin. First they slice or nuke the brain tumors, then decide what to do about the rest of her body.
on a side note, you gotta keep your sense of humor. So the tumor affects her left side, so it was dragging a bit. Then the drugs she is taking make her ravenously hungry. We are binge watching the walking dead. We looked at each other about the same time, and started cracking up. She is a living "walker."

The strength and love in your family is inspiring. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
-
Wow, this is devastating to read. You and your family are such good people. I dont even know what to say. I have an idea of how you may be feeling though. Im so sorry you have to go through this. 💪❤️

thanks guys. When Robin was first diagnosed in 2010, I googled her odds and found the scary ass number of 11 months. that turned into 7 damn good years. We hiked, we skiied, we ordered appetizers AND dessert. We truly lived the best lives we could together, accepting each activity she lost by finding another. When she couldnt work out anymore, we discovered binge watching tv. She truly only declined completely for a few months and I am happy that she is on the next adventure. After 34 years with me she deserves a break :smt002
I am going to take a bit of time to get my head screwed on straight then I plan on catching up on some long delayed water therapy
Now lets all channel this love and energy to Steph

Eugene, Nathan,
So very sorry and very sad to be reading this. My biggest fear. You guys are both amazing people and I am so very sorry. If you ever need to talk, hit me up. Been thinking about you all a lot this last year.
-
God bless you and your family Eugene. Molly waits for Robin on the other side. Cancer is a journey and Robin fought the good fight like Molly, Joel and Chef. In the end, we are all touched by the courage and dignity of the those who have traveled the the journey of cancer. Regardless of how the journey ends, their spirit and memories are ingrained in our hearts and souls forever and we are better people because of it. Not to diminish your loss because she was a special person and we will miss her dearly. Give Nathan a hug for me. He is a warrior like his mother. Rest in peace Robin.

Eugene,
Sorry for your loss. I just lost a close friend of mine two last week to Melanoma. He was 56 and fought it for three years. He was a great fisherman and was such a fixture with my Alaska crew. He too will be missed deeply. Hope you will heal from this and God bless you
-
Through your love and care for Robin we have seen in real time what we all strive to be as a human. Myself and Linelle offer you our best wishes and peace. You are a great man. Love you.
-
I hope to meet you both someday. I am touched by your loss, especially this day. I mourn with you...
