60lb is what Hobie says it weighs

Oh, ok, I stand corrected. 'Cause a kayak manufacturer wouldn't dare claim a shaved weight.

Jon Shein at Kayak Fishing Stuff claims the Adventure weighs in at 67 lbs. On that same thread, Hobie's own Matt Miller concedes it is an industry standard to show a stripped weight (ie bare hull). Of course, the Hobies come with hatches already installed... http://kfs.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/5086057385/m/6161032302/p/2

67 lbs is close to Malibu Xtreme territory (Malibu claims 57 lbs on their website - they musta put the yak on a diet). I know several people who've passed on or gotten rid of the Xtreme because it's a heavyweight. It could be an issue for some. For the advantages the Adventure provides, I'll put up with it. It's a great 'yak, but you gotta take the bad with the good.

(btw, I love my OK Prowler 15 - but I can list a bunch of shortcomings for that boat too. There isn't a perfect one in the bunch)

Looks like I have another trip to make to CCK to try the sprocket thing with the drive. For me having the drive fit in the hatch or not is a deal maker or deal breaker.

I dont think weight is really an issue here.  I have the outback and I throw it over my head and carry it long distances all the time.  The way I look at is that if you can paddle 4 or 5 miles in 1 outing you should have no problem carrying your yak to your car and throwing it on top.   What I guess I'm trying to say is that, enough with the weight comparisons, blah, blah, blah, :smt005 who has taken their gps with them and seen their mph paddleing and peddaling, really, thats what I would think most people would care about, that and the rudder problem.
So, on my tank version, I go 4.5 mph average comfortably peddaling :smt002, and 3.4 mph average comfortably paddleing :smt012.  I would love to know what you guys are averaging on yours.  I'm seriously considering selling my outback and saving up for the adventure.  Oh, the dilemnas of choosing a kayak.  JTF..

Hey Tote, let your voice or feedback be seen about a fly-fishing forum.
The drive wil fit in the adventure hatch. it has to beat an angle.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

I cannot carry my kayak over my head. My lower back is pretty messed up thanks to  a drunk driver. There are ways to get around it tho. I have the easy boat loader bars on my yakima rack. I only need to lift the front of the yak, put it on the bar, then do the same to the back. Works great for me. As far as transporting, ROLEEZ! The only way to go. I take mine up and down rocks and hills with no probs.
If the weight of the Adventure is keeping you back, you shouldn't stress about it. There are plenty of ways to get around the extra 5 pounds or so.
I know I could sure lose a few.
Thanks to all for the heads up about the drive being able to fit in the hatch. I will have to try it out and see if it is too much of a hassle. I know bobbing up and down in the swells can make for some awkward maneuvering on the yak at times. The easier things are the better.
