Had it all planned, until my employee called in the morning with stomach pain issues after eating raw oysters the night before.

Uhhh.... maybe your employee wasn't sick but called in sick so he could go yakfishing for WSB while the boss is stuck at work.   :smt003

I'm self-employed too and know how you feel.  See you OTW!!

Daniel,
Thanks for all the great reporting. I'm keeping my ear to the ground, listening to you and hoping to be able to join you and the others for some epic fishing/catching.

I don't know how much I'm getting into this idea/theory, but this is only my personal observation. The past several days since Friday, I've been trying to buy fresh squid from the local fish market at the wharf. Unfortunately, they had none available; they informed me that none of the commercial boats were able to catch squid. That was until last night, when they brought in loads. Is it ironic that fishermen were having challenges catching the ghosts this past week when squid were not dominantly present, and now wsb action fishing was good today after squid has arrived again last night?
Your theory is solid! also note the water temp dipped in the last 7 days. Yesterday it climbed back up to around 58.....

Dan, the squid boats have an informal pact to stop working on the wknds. It's been that way for years. That is probably why Monterey Fish Co didn't have fresh squid. All the light boats and seiners are up the coast by Davenport right now anyways. But I still like your theory. And your enthusiasm is palatable from behind my computer screen! Go gettum!

FYI,
Hit MBK yesterday (8-30-10) No luck personally :smt010
Had one hit but didn't stick - watched from the sidelines as 12 were landed around me.
The fish are still around and I'll be trying again next week.

good luck fellas to whosever going out! Are they hooking up dropper looping or fly-lined w/ a small weight! Its obvious where the fish are, but in the upper column of the water or near the bottom? And is anybody graphing squid while fishing? No squid, then theres no wsb!  Sure a few here and there, but the bulk of the schools are in when the squid are present.

Well just got back from a fun day of fishing. However, I didn't receive any love today lol :) The conditions were nice this morning, but by 1:00pm the winds and swells picked up.

Those who do plan to go this week, the wsb are still present as we saw 6 PBs and a lucky kayaker land their prize!! Wtg!! :D Also squid were present on the bottom as some were jigging for them. The weather should continue to get better through Thursday, I wish everyone who plans to go out much success!!

Look forward to fishing with you all :)

Andy, the fishermen are still catching them from the surface. I might be hated by some for sharing this info, but a fishermen brought some big wsb into the fish market and overheard him saying to the guys that his secret bait is sardines! :)

With that said, it may be cool to throw one line w/ sardines just to see what happens :) And those who do try it, please share your results/effects with us all, as I'm (and everyone else) am curious to see its effectiveness . I'm sharing this info with our family, and I would greatly appreciate it if others do the same in return. Thanks and I wish everyone much success!!
