Fishing rod choices

Hi I’m wondering what people are using for rod and real setups for he ocean I’m looking to buy one that I can use on the kayak when I get it in the ocean. Length action ect I bank fish all the time but 10’ food might be a little excessive and spinning or casting all my freshwater rod/reel is baitcasting

7 foot ugly stik medium light with a conventional reel. A line counter or colored braid is helpful. I use 30lb test braid so if I snag my main line it isn't too hard to break off.

Opinions are all over the board but the general consensus is ugly stick tiger lite 7' if you have a tight budget, are afraid of flipping your yak and losing it or are utilitarian and will settle for anything tjat "works".

If you have a mid range budget and intend on doing this a while, prefer a more sensitive rod with enough backbone to fight fish, want a lighter jigging set-up, or just like better equipment that will last.....the consensus is shimano trevala.

Theres hundreds of other sticks out there  based on your budget and intended purpose....or if you like to go against the grain.  I really like my seeker inshores and recently started wrapping my own rods based on phenix blanks and i really like them as well.

I have fished my whole life and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon lol. Thanks I have used a similar to the ugly stick mentioned and it wasn’t bad and I have a firm mid range budget most likely going with a penn reel have on on my 10 footer and love it. Guess it off the the sports shops to go play with reels this weekend [emoji869]

I’ll just help u narrow it down to ugly stick or Shimano trevala...because that’s all ur gonna get.

for the budget that's your best bet  but if you want to go crazy with rods. I can go all day about what style fishing you will do but the good old ugly stick tiger rod and old school pen reel I like open face but level wind will help you out.

I’m gona try and build my own rod from a rod building kit and see how that goes

Get a 7' tiger ugly stik and a Penn 209M, load it with 30lb braid and go fishing.  There's plenty of time to overthink things, but do it while you are already fishing and spending time on the water seeing what others are doing.  A lot of kayak fishermen have a tendency to overcomplicate things.

We should create a fishing overthinking app with a shock buzzer that trips after a certain amount of unproductive time lapse.  Oh the hours I've wasted without bait in the water...

Wait, that's another time sink.  I almost fell for it too.

An app that applies physical discomfort when it senses you investing too much time or thought into fishing.......don't most people call that a wife.....about 50% of the users uninstall.   

Haha ooh how often that would go off on me for overthinking what I should get lol
