Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Monday crabbing?

It was glassy here in Monterey all day, today. As long as the weather holds, the crabs don't care when they eat.

I'm thinking I'll launch out of HMB tomorrow, too. Because it's such a beast-of-burden I'm going to be in my 14' woodie rowboat. Ch.69.

3
I'm planning on getting to HMB between Sunday and Tuesday.

Georgina is SSW of Walnut Grove. It's a Sac county park. Google "Georgina Slough Fishing Access " . I've never been there but Alfredo mentioned it in his Delta access posts.

5
I'm thinking of hitting either White Slough or Georgina mid-afternoon til dark. Company welcome.

General Fishing Tips / Re: First trip to the ocean

MBK (Monterey Bay Kayak ) in Monterey is an easy launch site, though a pretty long drive for you. I would look to join a group planning in the Hookups section. This group is pretty good about helping out newbies. There's a lot of experience here, which helps shorten the learning curve and adds to the safety factor.

Good luck!

Safety First / Re: Fishing the Delta, or not, on windy days

When I was a fly-fishing guide in WA, I also used chain for an anchor. I was using a 14' raft and close to 30 lbs of chain to hold the boat in pretty heavy flows. To keep the chain in a compact bundle that wasn't too long, I cut the chain into 3 equal lengths and used a giant carabiner pinned through the center link of section so that the ends were free and there was no loops to snag on the bottom.

On the saltwater I'm a big advocate of drift chutes to control and slow my drift for fishing.

Dang, I'm headed down the hill tomorrow to spend a long weekend in Pacific Grove. SC is on my list, maybe Sunday morning on my way to Lake Elizabeth?

Good luck the Allens!

For Sale / Kid's Wetsuit
« on: May 01, 2013, 12:35:26 AM »
It looks like a youth's size small, 3mm. I bought it second  hand a couple of years ago for my daughter, but it was too small (she was 8, almost 9, at the time). I'm guessing it would fit a kid between the ages of 6-8, depending on the size and shape of the kid. It's in good shape, with no visible wear. The tag is still on it- I paid 12 bucks. I'll be driving from South Lake Tahoe to Monterey on Thursday, and back to SLT next Tuesday.

I've got one I was going to post for sale. It looks like a youth's size small. I bought it second  hand a couple of years ago for my daughter, but it was too small (she was 8 at the time). The tag is still on it- I paid 12 bucks. If you're interested, I'm going to be driving from South Lake Tahoe to Monterey on Thursday.

I'm back from my winter exile on the slopes.

I'm in PG for a couple of more days. It looks like the best window to get on the water is tomorrow morning. PG is having a big festival this weekend- I'm afraid that if I move my rig in the morning, then I won't be able to get a parking spot back in the neighborhood until sometime Sunday after I should leave. So, I'll probably just wheel my way down to Lover's Pt. for my launch. Planning to troll out towards Pinos and back. The short swell period may make things pretty lumpy.

Company welcome! I'll be on Ch. 69

If you guys get out this weekend, good luck! I'll not be in town til late Tuesday, so will be looking at a Wednesday or Thursday launch.

Talked to a neighbor and he said to head out to 200 fow for big dingies. Yikes! I'm going to need a lot more rope for that! I think I have a 100 on my trap.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / MBK 11/20; Crab and Cod?
« on: November 19, 2012, 07:30:40 AM »
Came down from the high country for the week. It looks like there may be a window tomorrow and then big swells until this weekend. Dropping a trap and a ring off the big woodie triple should be quite entertaining,  as will be dodging crabs scuttling around the interior!   :smt003 A few rockies would be a nice bonus. Shooting for a 6:30am arrival, will be on Ch. 69.

With this crew I expect there will be plenty of meat and desserts- so I'll bring some fiber in the form of a faux Thai peanut cabbage salad.

See ya Saturday!
