Getting towards the end of the year!!

Here are a few reminders for folks to help save them some heartache and to make the end of their DOTY/AOTY year more enjoyable...

I can't "officially" speak for AOTY anymore, but since this is my 6th year in a row helping coordinate DOTY/AOTY I think I have a pretty good idea that these reminders should be the same for both comps...

1. The 14 day rule is now back in effect. There is no reason to wait more than 14 days to enter your catch, and if you do so your entry will be subject to DQ.

2. Take good pics and follow the rules!! With only ~5 weeks left if your entry gets DQd it could be a lot harder to get another one...

3. Enter as many species as you can!! Even if they are not "big" or will not make it into your top 15 or 10, each species entered and approved will get you a raffle ticket for a sick Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120.

4. Keep an eye on the leaderboard!! Historically the last month is when there are the most position changes (at least for DOTY!!)

5. Typically we ask players to enter the last of their fish by midnight of 12/31 (if possible) so we can make an announcement as soon as possible of the winners.

6. Take a look at the sponsors listed on the DOTY/AOTY pages and if buying stuff consider giving them your business...year after year our sponsors donate a ton of awesome prizes to these comps and it would be great to show them some love in return.  :smt008

Hope the above makes sense and helps everyone in these final 5 weeks of 2017!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Good reminders Jim!  This time of year is like the 4th quarter of a close football game for AOTY.  Always fun to watch the position changes up to the last minute!  Looks like a bit of a climb to reach MattSwayze, but the 2nd-5th spots look wide open.  Have fun all, finish strong!

I have not entered 1 fish. I think it may be time to learn to fish.

I need a new rack or trailer cause mine is barely holding on.  My brakes are getting done today so I should be ready soon to catch what I need to secure 2nd and possibly make a run to catch Matt.

Great job dude!!!

Thanks Jim! It really was an epic day last week out on the yak (best in my life I think)! Three reds (a record for me, and one narrowly beating my PB from earlier this month), a huge female sheep (my first norcal sheep and a PB even counting the monsters from the channel islands), a copper (1st one for me, I think... just learned the difference between a copper and gopher this year thanks to you), a ling, and a nice blue in only a few hours of diving. I'm planning on posting a video and report but am having issues with music copyright on YouTube with the song I edited in so trying to get that figured out before I post...

Thanks! Yeah it was cool meeting Matt for the first time, especially since I had an awesome stringer :smt003 And he helped me out measuring the copper and sheep. Didn't actually measure the verm until I got home because I didn't realize it was bigger than my other one, so I may have lost a quarter inch due to shrinkage on that one  :smt044

Really stoked on DOTY by the way! It has improved my diving A LOT and has forced me to explore more. I'm definitely appreciative of all the hard work you guys have done putting it together and keeping it going.
