I've been having a blast on my recently acquired OK Prowler 13, fishing the East Bay reservoirs, Delta, and Clear Lake. What a hoot! Anyways, I feel like I'm ready to give the Bay a go, so I'm thinking a mellow trip to the ARW this coming Tuesday for some halibut trolling might be a good way to cut my teeth. Conditions are as follows. Wind: W 16mph Temp: 71 degrees Tide: Low of 0.9 at 5:41 am, high of 5.2 feet at 12:32 pm
I am thinking about launching at around 7:30, trolling/drifting for few hours, and getting off the water by around noon or so, before the wind really kicks up. What do y'all think? Is this a good plan? How would you change it?
Thanks for the input gang!

Keep an eye on the winds.  They roll across the Bay very quickly.  Remember, they say 16mph, but that's just the average... it can gust twice that speed.  White caps start breaking at ~ 10mph (between 8mph and 12mph).

I don't know what your comfort level is, but when the sheep start showing up, I tend to start making my way closer to the launch, especially in a paddle kayak.  On the plus side, at least you'll be blown back toward shore.  Maybe try fishing North early on and then drift back toward the launch as the morning progresses?  Be safe!

Not ideal, you really want to try and be there for a smaller difference between the low and high tide and fishing just before and after a tide change. Wind might be ok for a bit but stay closer to the wall for when it picks up.

If it's your only chance to get out there then give it a try but chances are there are going to be many more days calmer with cleaner water than what is forcasted for Tuesday.

PS I also have a prowler 13 and it's a pretty good boat for ARW not as fast as some others but nice and light, stable and has a good open deck, caught some decent flatties on mine.

Here’s the forecast on Windfinder.
https://www.windfinder.com/forecast/alameda

It looks like good weather. You should be fine in the morning. Start staying close to the launch ramp around noon.

If the forecast in the windfinder.com link is accurate, the wind wouldn't be that big an issue before noon, but will suck when the fan kicks on.

The tide swing doesn't feel fishy to me for when the wind's cooperating, but that wouldn't stop me. Of course, I'm not a 'results-based' fisherman, more of a 'shitty' fisherman, so don't take what I say as gospel or, um, useful.

I've got Tuesday off, I might head out to keep the cobwebs at bay if nothing else. Blue necky dolphin if I'm fishing or a SIK if I'm feeling lazy and just need the exercise.

PM me if you go out and I'll swing by if I see you OTW.

Right on guys, thanks for all the input!
I agree, the tide does seem less than ideal, but how often does the tide and weather line up at the ARW with all that wind? I feel like if I keep waiting for perfect conditions, I'll be fishing the bay like twice a year! :smt044 .
