Looking for someone who can fix an Abu-Garcia Ambassador 6601. The release is stuck, and Bay Tackle says they're hard to fix, due to hard to source parts?
  Someone near East Bay??

Good old Abus. I have three Revo Toros that are stuck in perpetual freespool due to the button not re-engaging.

Mike Dennis in Forestville can fix those. You want to sell them?

That's funny.  I have 2 revos that are less than a year old and both are having the same problem.

Exactly, this reel is less than a year old, and won't release line, or reel in either. Bummed, because I quite liked it. Just flat out stopped working one day. Will checkout Youtube as well..

This should get you going.but if you can't make sense of this vid then don't take your reel apart.
You can call Larry's reel repair but he's in Vacaville

I own and fish a handful of these reels. They are totally easy to fix, but unfortunately your problem is just a little thing with these reels that needs to be dealt with from time to time. I agree with going on Alan Tani's website, as there are many tutorials that will help you out with understanding the tear down and reassembly. If you aren't looking to dig into your reel and figure out how to take care of the seasonal cleaning and lubricating of your reel that is easily done with some practice, then you can always send it to Abu/Pure Fishing and they will get it back in shape for some coin. I have this problem at time and just pull it up manually with my thumbnail, but this is not ideal. With a little lube, cleaning, and regularly rinsing with fresh water after every use, you should be fine.

I've been doing some more research on the Internet and it seems to be a pretty consistent problem with the first 2 generations of revos.  I am gonna try and contact Abu Garcia to see what they are willing to do.  Seems some people have had luck and the company realized they had a defective part.  I would think they would stand by their product in light of all the same issues.  Shame to spend almost $600 on a pair of reels to have these kind of problems.

If not gonna have to spend the $ to have someone do the dirty work.  When I try to service reels, it just turns into a train wreck.

Like Mike says, you can send it back to the company they will fix for a set price usually 25-30$.  Almost easier than doing it yourself.

(They'll change the drag washers, too.)

Contacted Abu Garcia,  they are gonna replace kick levers free of charge. I just have to pay shipping to them.  Gonna have reels serviced also, can't beat the price.
