So since I've gone with a color depth finder, my battery no longer lasts a day. They are older batteries, but I've always been able to get a day out of them, but now they crap out before a day's use. What batteries have you had good success with using on a color unit? I don't want to buy a battery that doesn't last a full day of fishing. Thanx

I went the more expensive route and used a lithium iron battery. One is a shorai lfx18a1-bs12. The other is a battery tender btl35a4. So 18 amp hour and 35 amp hour. On a 4inch screen and 5inch screen I’ll get several days out of each battery. Also if you turn your brightness down on the screen you’ll get more from the battery.

They have the Shorai batteries at most motorcycle stores. I got mine at cycle gear in Santa Rosa.

It's the same size as the 7ah bricks.

This!

Weight-wise, lithium iron phosphate (LifePO4) is between SLA and lithium ion, and without any of the potential issues. It's a little pricier upfront, but should last for a long time--I'm going on my 4th season with one similar to this.
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Can't go wrong with the Dakota. Made in North Dakota!
Replaced my old 7lb brick with this, coming in just under 3lbs!!! $120 with their charger, but good for 1000 charges!!
That'll last me for the rest of my life!!!

I’ve been researching LiFePo4 batteries and have found that some use a confusing ah rating. Because you can drain a lithium battery more than lead acid you get more energy. A 10 ah lithium has the same useable energy as a larger lead acid. Therefore they label it with an ah range like 10-25 ah. That means it has 10 ah but gives as much useable energy as a 25 ah lead acid battery. It might be helpful if you’re comparing a lithium motorcycle battery to lead acid, but it can be misleading if you’re comparing lithium to lithium. You might think you’re getting a 25 ah battery when you’re really getting a 10 ah lithium that is equivalent to a 25 ah lead acid. If you see one for sale that has a higher ah for less money, read the details and look for an ah range. There might not be anything wrong with the battery, it’s just not really a 25 ah lithium for half the price.

A few questions about the lithiums. Do these need a special charger? Are these the type that catch fire? Do you store these half full and charger right before you use em?

There is more than one kind of lithium battery. We are probably better off using the LiFePo4 batteries. They do need special chargers as a rule. My wilderness system battery is designed to charge off a usb charger. LiFePo4 is not the kind that are in the news for catching fire. To my understanding you don’t have to do anything special for charging other than using a LiFePo4 battery charger. You can store them full and they will hold most all of their charge while stored.

Get the Nocqua 10ah. It is the size of your fist, very light, and it just works. Once you account for the cost of the failure-prone homemade cases and connectors you don’t need to buy, it is the same price as the other options.
Wanted to buy: Stealth ProFisha 575 or 525

Why people need Lithium battery when the Acid battery can use as an anchor and provide as much life as a half-dead lithium battery?  :smt003

You can get a good Lithium battery, buy an appropriate charger, then box it inside a waterproof box, cables, connector, and some DIY to make sure all is tight and secure.
Battery ~ $120
Charger ~ $30-$60
Waterproof box ~ $10-$30
Connectors-cables ~ $10~$30
You are looking at  $130-$200 for a complete set. Problem happens at all connections and how good waterproof the case is.

See my testing setup  :smt044(the current one does not look like that. It's waterproof and the connector from the battery to the FF is as tight as waterproof can be). I got 11 hours on my Lowrance Elite 5-HDI, YES full days fishing. It weights as light as any lithium battery ~1lb and has the low voltage cutoff circuit, and all the protections to make the battery pack last longest possible.
Look like there is a market for this. May be I could sell my setup for $100.  :smt007
