Hey guys, so I've been seeing pictures of people catching monster lings and cabezon from the waters of pigeon point would it be possible to launch from the surf?  Using a Ocean Kayak trident 13 I just recently bought it and have been on it only twice so have little experience

Thanks in advance

By the way plan on going Saturday if weather permits either pillar point or pigeon point

Bean Hollow and Pigeon Point are both launchable. Pigeon is probably easier, but has stairs. Wait for a good weather window to fish that section of coast, and don't go alone.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

There are lot of things to consider specially on this place.

1 Do not go out there alone. TRUST ME
2 Know your local weather, though that place can change in snap of finger
3 Very well known for GWS
4 Self Rescue is very important. There are lots of shallow area if you are not familiar with that surf can sneak up on you.
5 Find other options if possible.

I dont fish this place often when its late season.

IMHO, Pigeon Point/Bean Hollow is not for beginners, specially if the weather is not calm.

Pillar Point is better place to practice.

One of my basic rules of the ocean, NEVER go out alone.

Fishing solo is so relaxing but this isn't the place to do it.  I hear Darius puts on a good "Intro to kayak fishing the SMC" Seminar periodically.

I grew up in pescadero been fishing and diving pigeon point since 1980. Please head their advice. Great place to fish but get some time on the water first.

Good luck. Be safe.

Before they gentrified it Pigeon Point was a sacred secret among local fishermen and freediving community. Very fishy spot

Unless there's big west or south swell the south side is launchable even when the rest of the coast is shut down

That's the upside

Downside has already been alluded to

For 15 or so years it was my go to fish/dive spot, mostly alone and maybe one day a week with my dive partner

Sometime in the 80s I was down in the murk and had a big shadow cruise over, couldn't make out the shape but knew it was time to call it a day

Not too long after that a guy had a torso-ectomy and his buddy had to drag in the remains, dampened my enthusiasm for the place

As far as I know that's the only local fatality
