biteon - take advantage of that Tidewater fishing.

I used to kill the speckled/grey sea trout at Rudee Inlet when I was a teenager in Virginia Beach. Sting ray grubs when the water was clear there. I would "walk the plank" in the summer out to that far rocky breakwater when the tide was low. Pretty crazy actually. Don't know if they changed what the outlet of Rudee looks like now. Haven't been there in years. Are you guys fishing the CBBT or Lynnhaven Inlet/Bay? I would be all over the spot/croaker/tautog/flounder/trout/drum etc. working those pilings/rocky rip-rap islands in a kayak.

Come July/August, you guys should catch a live spot and rig up a float or balloon rig for king mackerel a few blocks offshore from the inlet/beach. They're out there when the water is really warm and the swell is down. Keep the bail open! Would be a fun ride in a kayak..

Never caught a cobia, but we would jig for small amberjacks off the ocean piers at night (summer) and roundhead/blues/puppy drum etc. during the day. My largest bluefish was 15 pounds on surf gear.

Only fished Back Bay once or twice but did well on the bass there. Old school Johnson's silver minnow/uncle josh frog strip over the weeds. I always wanted to fish the Dismal Swamp but never got the chance to go deep into it. Same with Chowan River. There used to be good crappie/bass back in those freshwater canals behind Sandbridge if I remember right.

Good luck and hope you get Cal. for your next assignment.

Biteon,

I just checked to see if Rudee Inlet is still as good as it was back in the mid 70s. Yep! This video is like one week old. Damn, I miss that place for fishing.... Wish that guy wouldn't stick his thumb in the gills though.

You're lucky to be there. Check out Lake Bradford on Little Creek Amphib. base. Tough lake but used to have huge LMB. Oceana NAS has a couple of smaller lakes/big ponds with bass and catfish. The clearer (eastern) one was really good for plastic worms/largemouth bass. Don't know if they are still there anymore though.

Send us more videos etc. We have great fishing here too, but that area you're in can be over the top in the warm season. Welcome to NCKA!

Awesome Vid! I was in Florida awhile back and that was amazing. The water was bubbling for a good mile or so! All types of fish!!!! Bonita/SMACKS/Rays/Sharls/Blues and that was from the pier!!!!
Virginia has its moments especially when the reds and specks are in like right now! I plan on going in the next couple days and that you all for the warm welcome! Ill keep ya'll posted and stroll through the forums to get my new setups when I head over to PAC. Tight Lines!
