Title: Numb Pinky
Post by: & on October 15, 2013, 10:02:25 AM
After the mooch memorial paddle, I noticed alternating diminished sensation/pain in the tip of my left pinkie.
I cleaved that pinkie pretty good last year while paring an apple.  didnt get stitches, but probably should have.

It being one of only two trips this year after slicing my finger, I haven't previously experienced the sensation.

Anyone else ever get anything similar?

Nearly sliced the top 3/8" of one finger off while filleting a trout in the high country.  Didn't want to pack up & go for stitches so I held it in the nearly freezing river for a few hours & wrapped the heck out of it with tape & continued fishing/camping.  It's been about 15 years now & the tingle is gone but not 100% with sensitivity.

I was shucking an oyster and shoved the dull oyster hard enough to puncture my hand  pretty deep.  id stayed numb for a long time.  even years later it still gets little twinges now and then

does the cold tend to aggravate it, or make it feel funny?

Its two days after the HMB paddle, and I swear my pinky still feels funny (not to mention it seems funny to be devoting this much time and attention talking about a pinkie lol)

Mounting a photo and boxcuttered side of my left thumb.  Numb for 20 years, but not now, hardly.

This is going to sound weird.
With your left hand palm up, find the point of your left elbow with your right hand.
Now with the right hand, move to the inside of the elbow and feel the 'dip' with your fingers.
Hold your right hand there while repeatedly tapping your ring finger and pinky finger to the palm of your hand.
You should feel the tendon in your elbow flexing when you do that.
Continue doing that and see how far toward your left hand you can feel the tendon flex.
Once you have a pretty good idea of whee it runs, massage the heck out of it.
You may have a cramped or pinched nerve that just needs to be worked out.
