Havent been to Tomales in years, and was wondering if there are any reefs to fish for rockfish out in the bay. Iv seen many reports about salmon, halibut, sharks/rays, and whales in the bay, but havent thought about rockfish.

I caught a rockfish on the south side of hog island once. Small...not targeted in the bay from what I've read. :smt006 :smt006

My brother once caught a big vermillion out under the Bay Bridge...guess everyonce in a while you never know what you might catch.

Fished there for 20 Years, never caught a single rockfish worth keeping on the inside.

Agreed. I grew up in the town of Tomales and have been fishing the bay for many years. It's not a place to target rockfish.

I assumed the bottom was sand, but there must be some structure near that island.

Very shallow all around from what I've seen. The only rocks seem to be off some points on the west side, but stay well clear of the breaking bar at the mouth.
