I just want to provide an update on the annual herring spawn. I stop doing the herring spawn thread here on NCKA but i do have an active one on my website and blog for those who are interested.

The herring are in the Bay. I got some decent reports from reliable sources that there are fish pushing in.  Can't say when they will spawn but just glad to know they are in the bay.  Good luck herring hunters. --TLA

Seems like tbay has been more productive lately than hmb. Went out to hmb a few days ago and grinded it out for a few legals. But it was a grind for few crabs.

CA Regulations / Re: Dec 14 FGC Meeting - MPA Proposals
« on: December 17, 2023, 06:25:09 PM »
Thanks for the update. I did notice some of the groups pushing for more MPAs and closing down certain areas for fishing.  Most noticeable is pleasure point. I’ll do some research on it and bring it up on my channel. I think these issues need to be brought up to light so people are aware of them and can speak up on them vs finding out about it last minute and getting all mad about it.

Thanks for bringing this up- TLA

I'm there now Sonny. haha I wish we could have side conversations. haha :smt005

Like Paul said the most important part is to show unity and support when it comes to working towards a common goal.  If we are not recognized as a significant stake holder and group the kayak fishing community will be brushed aside and new regulation will forced on us.

We have a small body of guys working on this issue but have shown that our presence is recognized as an important stake holder in this fishery. I can't express the importance of this.

50-100 active anglers willing to take time to show up and participate in the political process will go a long way to protecting the interest of our sport, and with it the peace of mind we all get from being out in the ocean we all love.

Make no mistake. Inaction, standing on the sidelines, or not doing anything is action in itself.
The results we put in will be the results we get out. Paul has taken the bulk of the action of getting us organized and understanding the process moving forward. He deserves the all the credit, but we need people to help show up for these important and pivotal meetings.

Join us online or better in person on Thursday December 14, 2023. Hope to see you all there --TLA

I travel to Tomales Bay with fellow CCK team member Moomoo Outdoors as I explore crabbing Tomales Bay for the first time. I have fished here many times but this is the first time attempting hooping for crabs. It was a cold and freezing morning but after the sun came out the crabs started to crawl into the pots.

Paul provides an update on the current kayak fishing exemption petition to CDFW which will be heard this Thursday December 14, 2023.

Links below to participate are in the description of the video.  It was great fun with lots of friends. Come join us on this episode

CA Regulations / Re: Oct 11, San Jose FGC Meeting - Groundfish Petition
« on: October 18, 2023, 02:41:59 PM »
I thought you guys did an excellent job representing the kayak community. I don’t think we were even on their radar whatsoever but with your presence we might have a change in 2024 thank you for everyone involved. Wish I could’ve made it but couldn’t take a day off work.

I agree from their comments that the kayak fishing community was not even on their radar. I think having a presence and letting them know that we have an active and thriving community does impact their decision making in the future.  In fact our community is one of the most eco-friendly ways to get on the water.

We do a lot to support environmental efforts such as supporting coastal clean ups, providing funds to local non profits and supporting the salmon fishery -- I don't think that was lost on them.

I am hopeful that we can build a constructive and mutually beneficial relationship with CDFW rather than an adversarial one. (We vs. Them). From their comments it seemed they want to maintain an open dialogue with us as they make policy for 2024.

I'm cautiously optimistic this will lead to better policy for our community come 2024; but there is still lots of work to be done. The working committee is meeting offline and in active discussion how to move forward. We will keep every one updated. Fingers crossed for better results some 2024 -TLA

CA Regulations / Re: RF Reg. Petition - Rockfish Nearshore Draft Petition
« on: September 05, 2023, 01:38:30 PM »
Thank you, MooMoo, for posting on your YouTube channel.
Our response jumped from 64 to 140 just in several hours due to your video.

I'll put a post and video out later this week and a blast to my mailing list. Sorry, i've been MIA on this topic. I am very supportive of the effort to organize and get a coalition to speak up for our interest. Juggling work, life, kayak fishing and the dozen of other interest takes a toll on me.  Thanks Paul and all those taking a lead on this important topic.

I think the CDFW will hear loud and clear from the Kayak Fishing Community on this topic. --TLA
