I have two extra handheld VHF submersible radios, both working well and batteries which have not been charged in 2 years still at full charge.
Both are Uniden, but one is branded WestMarine.
$50 each,$90 for the pair. I am in Novato.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Ever fished 10mile beach Point Reyes?

The North Beach is really tricky..  Getting out of the water would be incredibly hard.  The sand slope below the water line is very steep and it has direct exposure to the NW swell. It has a fierce undertow and the pure sand structure crumbles under your feet if you are walking up under the water and you can't beach a kayak.....too steep.
I spoke to a NPS surf rescue ranger about it one day.

Some locals I just spoke to think they are stripers for sure

Name that predator.
Was at Nick's cove a couple of weeks ago and saw the most amazing pelican attack.  It went on for at least 45 minutes, moving up against the shore and then out a bit. there were scores of birds. The water is pretty shallow thru here.
I assume there was a large number of anchovies being herded, but I don't know what was chasing them.  I didn't see any seals in the water so I assume it was halibut or salmon but there are probably a lot more halibut around.  I used to fish a good sized run of coho in the bay years back.
Sorry for the fuzzy pictures. I only had my iPhone.
I was out having an anniversary dinner and fishing was out of the question.
Any one ever fish conditions like this or know what was happening?

After 5 years, I am still liking my T-13 a lot. I don't think it is particularly wet.  I only fish the ocean and am always wearing a farmer john wetsuit so some water doesn't matter.  It rides over waves well, even a steep shore break. Sitting up higher might be nice for a calm bay, lake, or the Delta, but sitting low is good for stability and catching real big fish ( in my dreams ).
Hobies which cost a lot more, are definitely faster and have great advantages in being able to hold a position against a wind or current, but I catch plenty of fish from my Trident-13 and typically cover 15 or more miles in a day on the water with it.

Good friend's daughter lost her house and son lost truck, trailer, and RV at two locations in Rincon Valley area of Santa Rosa. He is moving all his good stuff from barn to the middle of yard to try to defend it.  Lots of luck Greg.

great video.  Great visibility in the water.  Where did you go for lobsters?

What kind of kayak do you have that you can successfully brace?
Having had my kayak slammed down on my head as I was on the sand left by the retreating 6' wave, I thought about pointing into the waves and backing slowly in.  But I decided that if I get caught again in those kind of conditions it might be best to get into the water a couple of waves out, and swim the kayak in to the beach holding onto the end away from the beach.
Any thoughts?
