Anyone else see this?
The bite on the guy's leg is so small that I wonder if it could have been a sea lion.

Might have been, I know two people that have been bitten by sea lions while surfing. Pretty rare but does happen.

If you're in the East Bay, Tokyo Fish Market in Berkeley or Yaoyasan and Ranch 99 in El Ceritto.

Thanks for the report! Definitely perch around there, I use bits of shrimp, or flip rocks on the beach and collect pile worms. Never had luck with plastic grubs in the bay, only out at the beach.

So gnarly, amazing accomplishment!

If you're looking for a good read, do yourself a favor and grab a cop of Ed Gillet's adventure, 'Pacific Alone'.

Hey Jim.
I heard some reports of dead stripers in the South Bay due to the current and spreading red tide. I'll let you know if we see anything along the Richmond shoreline. Driving up the 80 today on my way to Fairfield the water coming in from SPB was looking pretty dark.

I'd rather see reg changes for halibut: two-fish limit and barbless hooks.

Nice fish Jim!!!

Congrats, it’s supposed to be on fire out there. Maybe target it from Muir in a Kayak?
If you got the stuff, Rodeo would be the launch but only in perfect swell...never done it but certainly daydreamed about it... :smt006

Launched from Rodeo one time years ago and paddled down around Point Bonita. I wouldn't do it again except on the perfect day, no wind, no swell, and small tides. Took me about 45 minutes to get to the spot, 2 hours coming back. That area sucks in South swell too, so launch and landing can be gnarly during summer S swell season.

CA Regulations / Re: Question about Duxbury Reef SMCA
« on: May 10, 2022, 04:40:33 PM »
Hey Ezra,

I might advise skipping this particular area/reef for spearfishing. It is very open to swell, wind, current, viz is typically questionable and is a particularly popular area for white sharks.

I'm not one for telling anyone where or where not to go spearfishing, but I'd skip that spot, there's better options within a couple hours of Oakland. Just my 2 cents having grown in the area.

As for the regs, I think it's technically legal, but can't confirm that. I would defer to more informed folks.

Good luck!

Introductions / Re: intro: FL man who misses fishing

Bay Area born and raised but have been married to a FLA gal for 17years and we go visit her Dad 1-2 times a year. Love my home waters, but hard to beat FLA fishing for variety and access.

Welcome!
