~50# at 55"
Fly-lined squid using double 5/0 owner ssw hooks and 25lb fluoro

Personal best and she came in hot! I had to gaff her while she still had plenty of energy just in case a seal were around.  The leader was stretched out near the hooks and I was surprised that it didn't snap - even with a light drag.

I had not noticed this particular thread for white seabass before in the picture section and I was surprised to see no recent posts. I know of at least one NCKA member catching one last week in Tomales.

In any case, I'm adding one from August of last year, just to get everyone's juices flowing again on the hunt for the white ghost.  I have caught a lot of them over the years, having grown up and fished So Cal into my early 30's, but my personal best came from the amazing fishery that is Tomales Bay.  Right at about 60 pounds before bleeding.  Enjoy,

Norm

I wish I could blame that one on my standard swimbait approach, but it was, in fact, a wee live anchovy on 20 lb leader and a 1/0 live bait hook!  I was throwing a swimbait on the other rod, of course, when the big beast ate the chovy on the rod in the rod holder.

They should establish a wsb hatchery in Tomales.

That’s a great idea, man!  I may try to reach out to the folks that run the grow out pens for WSB in so cal and see if there is any interest in putting one up in Tomales. They sure did great things in So Cal.

Eric at J&P Bait is involved in a WSB revival program in SF bay.  I could pick his ear to learn how to create momentum for TB...sounds like work...hmmm...I would team with you Norm if time was the only investment so far.  After that pic and how I've heard the food flavor profile is, we could teach socal a thing or two for our region..personally I'd be in it for the fight and the food even though building something is a bit of a motivation...besides you being super cool swimbait guy and generous with putting people on fish.... :smt006

Great video. I have to say you made me nervous the way you put it down unclipped. Glad it didn't flop out. Good thing you didn't listen to the guy on the boat. I write all the relevant current regulations on the back of my hawg trough so I don't doubt myself.
