I received this Recipe from a good Italian Friend of mine and I made it for Xmas gifts.
It was a big hit and I have received requests that I give it again for the last few years.
Its pretty good you keep it in the freezer and serve in a shot or cordial glass after a good
meal, its not only tastes great it helps you digest your meal and cleanse your palate.
I tweeked the recipe a little this year I need a second opinion so some lucky or unlucky soul
will be getting a little extra holiday cheer.
Sip it don't shoot it. :smt119 :smt120

Limoncello
( di Idanella)

7 Russian River Valley Meyer lemons

1/2 liter of Diesel Grain Neutral Spirits 153 proof

1/2 liter of Virgin Oregon Rain water

380 grams of Hawaiian Pure Cane sugar

Peel the lemons just to the whites (not the fruit)

Put the peels in a jar that seals tightly

Add the alcohol

Let it sit for 36 hours

After, melt the sugar into the water (over heat)

Combine with the "lemon diesel" -after you strain out the peels!

Pour into bottles!

Chill in freezer

A friend of mine makes limoncello. He shared it with us on a hot summer evening. Yum!

My family makes our lemoncello fairly similiar. We take everclear, pour it in to a carboy ( glass cylinder ), pack it full of the lemon zest,(yellow portion only), as the white adds bitterness. Throw it in the wine cellar for a year. Serve with heavy whipping cream and a tablespoon of sugar.
Great to see the good stuff is being passed around! lemoncello is santa claus's favorite drink. Gives me extra rosy cheeks!

Ah ... now I know what to do with all those lemons I still have hanging on the tree in my backyard.

Can you add too much lemon zest to this? So just add lemon zest to everclear and let sit for as long as you like?

Worth a shot some recipes call for longer I haven't noticed much diff. Too much lemon just add more alcohol or syrup.

I had a chance to try some of Mike's Limoncello....heck yes! Delicious, although my lemon-nut spouse has staked a claim to the bottle.  DELICIOUS!!!!
