Mike, final location?Too close to call yet...
Bring herring or sardines for monster catfish! Ill be there. Meow meow.
Will this tournament allow live bait?
I'm down for artificial baits only. But I don't see the point in not allowing scents. Do we really need to make rules more restrictive than the bass boat guy's tourneys?I agree, let make it fun, not too competitive. Besides its June, peak of bass fishing in clear lake. I am sure whatever you throw in there will get inhaled...
The other thing I wonder about is if going with artificial baits will hurt attendance. I think there will be some people that won't show but really......it will be their loss.
Whatever is decided I really hope to make this. jim
I mentioned this in another thread. Live bait is not allowed in CA in bass tourneys as far as I know. DFW rules I believe. We had this discussion before about possibly the Salmon Slam and since bass were included we were not allowed to use live bait. Are we rule breakers? Bass are easy to catch in June anywhere on artificial lures.

But isn't that's only if you are requesting for a Tournament permit from DFW? Like for the BPS or FLW tournys???

I think I did; is it this one? If so, doesnt it only apply to Black Bass Tourneys? And it does not state anything on "Live Bait"
Beginning in 1975, organizers offering prizes or other inducements for the taking of sport fish in any California water were required to obtain a fishing contest permit from the CDFW. Since 1985, organizers have been required to submit a “Fishing Contest Report” to the CDFW detailing the results of each permitted contest. In 1990, in an effort to gather more data, regulations were established that provided two types of contests, “Event” and “Annual.” An “Event” type contest permit is designed to regulate large fishing contests often run by commercial organizations. The “Annual” type contest permit is designed to gather data from smaller organized contests, such as those offered by bass clubs or individuals. Both types of contests are listed as they are entered into the tournament management database, and are available at the following link:
Section 230, Title 14, of the California Code of Regulations (CCR) contains the
regulations governing game fish contests. Section 2003 of the Fish and Game
Code authorizes the Department to issue a permit to any person authorizing that
person to offer prizes or other inducements in fishing contests, tournaments or
derbies for the taking of game fish. There are two exceptions: Permits are not
required for (1) frog-jumping contests or (2) fishing contests conducted in waters
of the Pacific Ocean. Game fish include the following species or species groups:
white sturgeon; American shad; salmon and trout--all species; goldfish; common
carp; hardhead; Sacramento pike minnow; western sucker; catfish and
bullheads--all species; striped bass; white bass; black bass and sunfish--all
species; tilapia--all species; sargo; bairdiella; and orangemouth corvina.

Big Hammer Baby!Do you use those for bass also?
Pages read, DFW staff consulted with.
Artificials and live bait are OK
This is a multi species event weighted towards crappie. Permitted as crappie. Catch and release only.
We will also have the black bass exemption just in case.

Kid, apparently you weren't there the day they had read between the lines class. We will all deal with whatever the lake situation is and make the best of it. Because that's what we do.
What will Clear Lake be like that time of year? Doesn't it get pretty smelly and nasty in the summer? Or is that later?
Jigs with rattles vs no rattles, heavier jigs with higher profiles, thick algae blooms are not beneficial for minnows so minnow guys may have to search a little for clearer water, etc.
Not needed for kayaks Dogwood :smt003
Made reservation at the camp site. Were in. Looking forward to going to Clear Lake. Check is in the mail. Good times.
Sorry for the confusion, what is the final word on live bait for this? I'm out if live bait is in.
I have a campsite reserv I need to get rid of or pay $10 penalty to cancel (who knew). Anyone want it? PM me and we can discuss on phone :)
The entire fish must be photographed laying straight on a measuring board with either the fishes top or bottom jaw
touching the boards end (0” mark). We will NOT measure your fish nor will ANY fish be allowed at the check-in table.

So... it doesn't matter, open or closed, as long as one or the other is clearly touching the end of the board. I always thought that rule was unnecessary. I think the fish's out of water time should be as short as possible. :smt003

OK, I'm in then - that rule was/is a bit much.
I agree with getting the fish back in the water as fast as possible too.

I still don't understand what the big deal or difficulty is in taking a picture of a fish with it's mouth closed. Lay it on the board, push it forward to shut mouth, take picture, release. Takes less than a minute open or closed.
Hey Scott, I might be interested in sharing a site w/you.
Gotta see if the boss has me booked for that date first.

The last LMB I caught I could not get its mouth to close. Either way, fish are bigger with their mouths closed by a tiny bit.
So that's how to do it. I was wondering why all the fish I measured always had an open mouth. Forward pressure closes the mouth, good to know.

My registration goes in the mail tomorrow. I am looking forward to fishing Clear Lake. I've only been there once before fishing at night for catfish. We caught some nice ones. My sister in law had her pole pulled into the water by a fish. Later we snagged on the line and were able to retrieve the pole, with the catfish still on the hook. Sweet!
The chatter baits are sick! And who doesn't love the HooRag to protect our good looks!
I'm getting excited to get out and get a few big slabs early and a beast lmb on topwater!! I might even Bring a fly rod if Scott will share a tip or two ;)
Nice job Mike! You are making a first class event for sure! Sorry I have to miss( Annual Russian River camping trip) but I'm sure there will be a great time had by all!

Thanks Jim. That comment means more than you know, I really needed that! I've had a few unnecessary :smt011 bumps in the road but things seem to be back on track :smt003. Myself, Jim and James are working hard to bring the best event we possibly can to our NCKA brothers/sisters. In my eyes, these events are what's it's all about and the friendships that develop are priceless.
Sorry you can't make it. I had my money on Logan for the youth category. I'm looking forward to pulling some fat verms with you and Logan this year. Thanks again bud! ~Mike
You guys are doing an awesome job on this. I hope I can make it.

Mike
Right now.
Right now. Site 61. Two days of chasing bass while Linelle relaxes.Ha, me and Linelle were just talking about that tent trailer of yours last week Craig! Glad to see you're getting some use out of it.
I've never been to clear lake. I'm seriously thinking about going. Need to talk to the General.
Rey
Hell yeah!I would imagine that a saltwater streamer or a foam frog would net you some strikes.
Can't wait to get on CL with the fly rod!
Does someone have any intel on fly patterns for this lake?
I haven't found too much info online about bug wanding this lake.
I guess clousers and streamers below and poppers on top is standard, but anyone have a CL sure bet? :smt003
Sent my papers and $ in today. :smt004 If the fish don't bite, I can sail.
I would really love to give away my Humminbird that is pissing me off if I win that Lowrance unitI might also have two 4HDI units to give away. But receiving these units as support will be based solely on attendance numbers and a last minute call. But the 7HDI will be a prize.
Hey Scott,Any update on cashing the checks? Mine still hasn't come through my bank and I want to be sure there wasn't a mail snafu.
I'm not going to do a list but I will be depositing all 20+ checks next week.
Pssssst: G-Shock watches came is today. Picts to follow on Monday, these things are sweet!
That's it I am stepping down as co-organizer so I have a chance at these prizes.
You'd be crazy not to make it to this event. Saturday tourney followed by Daleshark's smoked meats, Uke Fest, horse shoes, volleyball, swimming, & just plain chilling with the NCKA family.
Gonna be a great event.
• Each angler must fill out their own points sheet accurately and submit at the check-in table no later than 12:00 noon.
Can I PayPal you my entry fee?
Hey Ring, thanks for the intel. We will definitely consider changing it to 6am start and 5am reg as long as there is no negative feedback from those who have already registered.I like the early start.
Thoughts anyone???? Yes, No...
Mike
5:30am start would be good. Especially if tourney day ends up being the typical CL summertime 100*+.
Now that's what I'm talking about!!!! I hope to put a couple monster bass up early on topwater and then be off the water before the heat sets in! :smt003 :smt044
What kind of number are we looking at for participants? Are we going to see 30 plus anglers fishing this one? Sounds like it's going to be a great event!! I need to call and reserve a camping spot still before its all booked up if it hasn't already!
Just wanted to ask if anyone is bringing their families to the event? I want to bring my wife and kids with me they are ages 2 and 4 . Nice to meet with new people. My wife fishes with me too so she will most likely fish the next one while I watch the kids onshore.
Green light, just Paypal'd over my registration and sent my forms in. :smt001
And I'll be bringing plenty of Pro-Cure Trophy Bass samplers/stickers for the schwag bags, and a nice prize pack of bass scents!
-beenfishin
Oh, and if you guys haven't looked, the day of the tournament is the day following a "new moon".:smt006
Temps look pretty good. The wind could slow down a bit. Also, would you mind moving one of those partly cloudy days to Saturday so that the topwater bite might last a little longer?
Hey, I've been trying to fax my paperwork over and I think your fax machine isn't working. Any suggestions?
Can I bring reg to event? I just paid. Don't want to look through 17 pages for the answer.

I didn't get a site number when I made my reservation. I wonder if I call back will they let me pick my site? It would be nice if we were all somewhat together.
I didn't get a site number when I made my reservation. I wonder if I call back will they let me pick my site? It would be nice if we were all somewhat together.I read in the camping thread that there is a three night min to get a specific site reserved. Otherwise you get a site first come first served and you pick the site # when you show up from what is still available. With the reservation you are guaranteed that there will be at least one to choose from.
Already started packing my clothes. Can't wait, gonna party hard with my yak bro's and hopefully hook into some big mouths!!!
Anybody have any recent pics of the water at the resort? I thought someone posted they were going to scout it out.
Fellas, I wanted to attend this tourney but work got in the way again. This week I'm covering third shift working seven day straight. Anyhow, I've been trying to get a hold of Edgewater since last week to cancel my reservation for this Friday night and Saturday night. I finally spoke to them and they refused to give me my refund saying I had to cancel in thirty days. I think that's total BS. Anyhow I paid for three person for those nights. I hope you guys can use the site on me. They never gave me a site # either saying that they will give it to me when I got there. I will never give them my business again.

Thank you for all the work you guys have put into this event. The family is looking forward to it!
My lazy ass forgot to mail off the check and paper work. I'll be there with $30 and paper work in hand Friday night. I cant wait!Did you still have that Carrot stick? Pm with Cost (can't remember) Could you bring it?
I hope I didn't just ruin things up for you Mike and James. Not my intention at all whatsoever. I just wanted to share my experience about how they conducted their business with me. How can one make a 30days cancelation when I made it three weeks prior. :smt011 Anyhow, let's forget about this. I hope you all have a great time catching some monster LMB and giant catfish. See you all soon!Sorry to hear this bro, that a pile of crap regarding cancellation, have them defered to their website cancelation policy. I dont really like Edgewater. I love State park, clean and easy to deal with both reservation and cancellation. Anyhow still trying to work my schedule, couple of our cases are going to trial first week of July. I am pretty slam could use some fishing to blow some steam.

Me and my dad are looking for a place to stay just for Friday night. But I read its a 3 night minimum. Maybe we can split it site jedmo.i will answer on camping thread

The work Mike and James have put into this event is going to blow you all away! Everything is ready to go and its going to be EPIC!!!
See y'all there Friday :)
Okay, need to ask a dumb question.... Does anyone know what the cell phone reception is like on/around the lake (AT&T)? It would earn brownie points to let the wife know. Thanks.Your going fishing, leave everything behind and have fun lol...I never had problem with Verizon before not sure with AT&T.
AT&T works great with 3G at Edgewater!
I managed this one too. She was 20.25". I caught eight total.

Sweet, so what were you using?
I'll have a few things for sale at the event... Any other swappers? I'll need a new baitcaster for the pole Bones is bringing me... Skeet Reese rod (off his boat and super custom use by him in Tourney) $60.00 Tony/Novofish has first shot at it...
Pics and stories please! I really wanted to be there but had other obligations so now I have to live vicariously. :smt001I hear there is a diving expedition planned in the hopes of recovering $1000 worth of poles and reels. :smt009
