Sorry to be out of the loop, computer crashing and still have lots to do with buttoming up the last event... but,

I now have a computer and still trying to get my files up and running etc... etc...

I'm in process with HOW National getting our California registration and getting our

" Ducks in a row..." basically, getting us more organized.  It's very important as we get donations and tie ourselves up more and more with the various VA systems, Warrior Transition Units, tons of the other " issues", reporting to the state, IRS etc,,, etc,,,  it's a lot of stuff..  so basically,

Don't feel that HOW has disapered because we don't have another event going right now, and will not for the rest of the year as I'm just too busy with getting the details sorted out right now, and the weather is really unpredictable...

The bright side is next year is looking very exciting!!!  We made many new contacts out of the last event and being on the front page of the Sun Valley Times network of papers brought in a couple dozen wounded veterans and vet/volunteers and other connections.

we also might be working with a flyfishing organization that works with vets too. A great organization that is doing some really good work with vets who we can not help, but there is room for us to work together to and pull our resources.

Cont on next post, I don't know why but I can't type and see the rest of what I'm typing here

Cont...

Wednesday, I will be going to a Wounded Warrior Transition unit " Muster " and doing a Dog and Pony show and getting even more " personal " contacts. This is going to change how we do things, with having the personal contacts of wounded warriors.

we will be able to get started earlier, by pass administration and get these Guys and Gals out on the water earlier and on our schedule. Of course more to come and details are endless, but I'm hopeful that this should be more streamed lined soon. What I'm also hoping for and should work, is to have a list of wounded vets who want to go fishing and depending on their situation, could be taken out by a small group or even a couple of NCKA'ers for a small hook up. All I have to do is get all the info on where you are going, what/where and who is there and log it, and your covered liability wise under HOW and would be considered a HOW event.

I'm thinking we should have something in January, maybe another big one,

How is Del Valle at that time of year?

 Amazing day....

Got to hang out with about 50 Active duty wounded warriors and talk about kayakfishing and ncka...

had  knew what I was getting into I would have asked for help, but it was incredible and a honor to be with these Brave folks...

i pick up about 30 more contacts of wounded warriors who want to go fishing....

Frustrating part was the Vets who are from Nevada and Oregon...

I was wondering if any guys are up by North Tahoe Reno area? Some of these guys live 18 miles west of Reno...

maybe we can get them hooked up with fellas up that way...

The southern and middle Oregon areas are another challenge and are probably going to require another chapter...
more work to do....

Great Day though ... Amazing  these Men and Women are...   :smt004

Hopefully, we start to see them log into the site and introduce themsleves...

Don

November, December, March to May are usually good for DV as far as fishing. January-February can be a tough fishing because of the poor water clarity so the dam would be the destination. For January and February, Shadow Cliffs and Quarry Lakes would be better choices for trout trolling or bait soaking. Both have nice picnic areas and are dog friendly except for dog swimming. I think Quarry lakes is a little more scenic and more fun to paddle on. I will be switching to freshwater after I get tired of eating crab.  :smt005 I paddle a tandem so it is pretty easy for me to take another person as long as they don't mind dogs.  :smt003 Let me know if you need help.

Quarry Lakes also has a sheltered pavillion picnic area. Might be nice if it is raining.

Don,

Melones is on fire and will probably be the same for the next month or two.  all small planter trout, but they're fun to catch.  That lake over near tulloch is probably a no-go, i think the locals are not too keen on any publicity of any sort.

a couple of other options out my way are the merced river below mcswain dam, mcswain itself as well.. the merced is not yet being stocked from what i can tell though i'm keeping my eyes open, the river there is mellow and wide and fairly fun when the fish are in there.

Thanks for the suggestions guys,

we should probably do something soon...  a small " hook up " with everyone on the water and a basic lunch afterwards.

Just a quick note to say Next year is going to be busy...

It's been a major set back with the computer crashing and getting my stuff back on line and still have much to do... Good News is I have personal contact info for many wounded warriors who want to go fishing and WE have built a very good reputation with the VA and Warrior Transition Units...

Heroes on the Water National Continues to grow across the nation and don't be surprised when ya start seeing this logo in many places...

Were kinda in organizational mode now and with the holidays and cool unpredictable weather, just going to ride out the year

I'm thinking we should do something late January so keep posted

and Thanks Everyone for helping getting this off the ground...

Happy Holidays to you and Yours....    :smt006
