Before I forget...Jeff Smith...if you're going to Tiki Lagun on Sunday, I have your blue pot.

Plenty of shade to get away from the heat of the day...I wore my jacket for most of the day which is a good indicator.

One of the vets named Jerry, has his own hobie mirage-drive boat that he pedals with a prothstetic leg. He has a great sense of humor and is a member here now. I hope he can make it out to some hook-ups and fish with us more.

I had a little chat with Jerry at the picnic area.  Glad to see him here again as he was my fishing partner in the last HOW event.

The most amazing fact of the day was Jedmo's white hoodie not being stained after a full day of cooking.  :smt006

Hojoman thanks for supervising the chili pot!  I'll see you at Tiki Lagoon next Sunday.  I just gotta say that my wife was totally impressed with what she experienced Friday.  She is just getting into the kayaking scene.   The lady vet, Maryella, that I helped out was bound and determined to catch a fish.  Kudos to the therapist Crystal who aided her on the tandem.  ----I hope she gets a chance to come to the next event I will be there if at all possible.  Hat's off again to Danglin----you are the man!---barefoot1----Jeff Smith  (I'll keep my radio on next time!)

My fishing partner this time was Jerry. We started out with him showing me how to use a Hobie Kayak. He brought his own yak which I knew really not much about. After we got going we trolled, and trolled, and trolled, and....I guess the fish just didn't want to cooperate. After getting tired of nothing happening we decided to bait fish and just sit around. Still nothing.
Jerry, when you get on here and read this, remember what I told you about joining in the madness. All are welcome. No fees, or requirements. We are just a bunch of people who met on this site and have one thing in common, we like to fish and have a good time. Same to all of you who were there. I'm sure there are enough "extra yaks" around for you to hook up with us sometime.
At the end of the day BMB and myself went out for one last try at some fish. Hooked one bass finally. I guess there at least 2 fish in the lake. Moochs and mine. Ben, where's my pic for proof? I'll post a couple pics soon
Thanks Don for another good outing.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen.  I've missed these events so far but definitely will make the time in the future.

What a cool event!

I especially loved the photo of the chair and walker at the waters edge.

Did I say I hate working The Medic????   :smt011

Brutal, feel like I have just walked through Dante's Inferno....

Been sleeping all day after that nightmare....  what day is it?

Ok.. more cheese with that whine...  man... ouch...  :smt010

So,  35 Veterans and some Family,  that is what I can gather from the participant sign in sheet...

we did an excellent job in getting the information of most people who showed and the signing of waivers...

This event was making people nervous in Texas, but it looks like we pulled it off, ...

and I put it out to Texas about " Dave..."

(Sailfish's personal striper retriever, ) about how he wants to get a yak an asked about that Native Watercraft program were they help Wounded Warriors get new yals with participation from the manufacturer, dealer and then a low price for the Vet...

Not here yet, but I heard from the Andy Zimmerman ( CEO of Native Watercraft ) about helping Dave...  gotta like it...

let me know sailfish if ya got something else worked out for him...

Lots to do on getting this one wrapped up and then contacting the Vets that showed to direct them to the site and get us to more Vets for some real hook ups with wounded vets with earlier start times on productive waters... :smt002

Thanks Again everyone and time to strike while the Iron is Hot....

Keep you eyes on the Contra Costa Times and the Independent, will be running stories this week, well CCT this week and the Independent next week...

Here is a copy from Jim Dolan on what is going with HOW across the country.....  :smt004

" A great October for HOW!!

Kaleb and several troops attended the NCKFA Oak Island Tournament. Report below. Pics attached. Our ultimate goal is to get the injured folks to join the sport and turn them into kayak fisherman. Kaleb has been very successful in making that happen. Takes a lot of time and talent to get folks interested and keep them moving forward. Our sport is a blast and we all love to show people how easy and fun it is.

Ken Bergmann in South Carolina held the 2nd Annual Redfishville Shoot-Out for SC HOW Tournament supporting HOW on 9 Oct. Almost 40 participants. Raised money for his local Chapter.

Jeff Herman took some Project Victory guys to some bass lakes near Danbury, TX Saturday, 9 October. Big fish were caught.

Don Anglin had his big outing in NORCAL on 8 October.  And another breakthrough with a vet. Email sent earlier.

Last weekend Dean Thomas, Jay Koog, Joe Poole, and Steven Schmidt helped 4 vets and their friends out at Rockport, TX. Great weekend. Emails sent earlier. Jay and Joe run the Austin Chapter.

Bill Stroud in San Antonio took some BAMC folks to a lake near New Braunfels that Don Graves has access to. Bill is pushing the San Antonio Chapter hard.

October 23rd Kaleb is going out with some folks and Tim from Legacy to get some video for promotional video.

The Carolina Yakfish Series will hold another tournament on 30 October and raise close to $1500 for HOW. - http://carolinayakfish.com/2010/10/10/register-for-event-5-jordan-lake-1030/    This group set this up and ran with it. They are helping us thru a donation from Inspire - http://www.inspirepharm.com/

Chapters are being started in Central PA, Central VA, Ohio, NY, Tampa, Jax, Space Coast, LA.

I know I forgot something, so speak up and let us know what you are doing.

Thanks to all. Some pretty “inspiring” things happening in our world for the wounded warriors.

Jim  "
