Gearing Up and Rigging Up / BROKe my Hobie CF Paddle
« on: September 13, 2018, 10:42:37 AM »
BROKe my CF Paddle coming into Linda Mar beach after a good salmon trip. What is it they call that beach - “The Market” ?
Well anyway I was trying to see if Hobie would take care of it for me - no go. They won’t even sell me a separate blade or that half section. I need to spring for a new paddle. Any recommendations?  Anyone else have a CF paddle problem?

Safety First / HMB- boats and kayaks
« on: November 27, 2014, 10:17:47 AM »
Hi All,
Just wanted to see what everyone's take is but I noticed a lot of boats don't really care about slowing down or taking a different path while around kayaks.
Any one else have the same experience?
Here's a few scenarios:
A buddy of mine and I were fishing south of the first green buoy - almost every boat came around that buoy about 20-30ft next to us at pretty much full speed. Maybe this is a no fish zone? Or a designated path for boats? Idk but I though it was pretty reckless so we left and crabbed the rest of the day closer to shore.

Then I noticed Tuesday a lot of boats plowing out of the mouth at full speed in the no wake zone - what gives?
I would say mostly rec fishing boats and less the commercial guys. Is this a HMB thing?!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Banks Board - Model I vs II for towing
« on: November 14, 2014, 08:51:34 AM »
Hi All,
Was in HMB crabbing - this past Sunday.
And I saw this kayaker towing what looked to be a mini yak behind him - with gear on it. I thought it was a pretty neat idea.
So I looked into it (looked to be a Banks Board)- now I can't decide which one to get - version I or version II. Does anyone here have any experience with them?

Does it cause much drag (I'm on a mirage outback tandem)? Can I put a crab pot (not folding version) on top of it without it tipping?

I was thinking version I would be better as it is a little smaller and has a nice hatch in front for dry storage. Just would like a little more room as the Outback tandem has little space.

Happy Fishing,
Ken

General Talk / Hey what's in season now?
« on: January 02, 2014, 12:33:53 PM »
Hi all,
Newbie here.
I wanted to do a second run at HMB - not sure what's catch-able and "in season" at this point. It sounds like rock fish are out.  Maybe CA halibut and perch - does anyone perch fish from their kayak?
I am thinking about dropping a crab pot.  Any tips on where in HMB or anywhere else?
Last week I dropped it near the outer jetty off to the left as you exit the HMB harbor. Nothing but small dungeness and a few rock crab.

Thanks for the tips!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Outfitter Hobie - hard to turn starboard
« on: December 24, 2013, 12:40:34 AM »
I took my kayak out to HMB- she seems to favor port rudder.
Starboard is not as sharp.
Has anyone else has this problem ?
At first I thought I had fixed it by pulling down my rudder a second time but it still does not work as well as port.
Tips?

Introductions / Newbie - close to HMB
« on: December 23, 2013, 02:29:54 PM »
Hi All,
I'd like to say I just got my kayak but its been about 2 years and I am finally getting around to making my first post!
Hi to all the NCKA people!
I've met a few guys that were really helpful in getting me in the water.
Shouts to Stu and Ariel a.sea.
I just met Jon fiver. Thanks for safety tips.

My first outing was yesterday in HMB - got there early. Turns out sunrise was at 7:30am - solstice made it the shortest day of the year. Just my luck. Ended up with no crab - fishing close to the jetty.
No fish - trying for perch and Cod.
Nothing.
Tips?

Thanks,
Ken
