Hey Tom, welcome to  ncka.  You can catch Lingcod that size on a kayak.  Its a lot more fun.

I fish in the mountains mostly the stanislaus river from cold springs up to Kennedy meadows. I bass fish the merced ruger locally.  I bought a kayak this year and am trying to learn to catch fish from it. I fish mcswain and McClure mostly so far but have fished beardsley twice and I like that lake just a long drive for a day trip.

Welcome!

Are there any good places to catch trout in Turlock from the shore?

Or striped bass?

Turlock lake and mcswain are the closest lakes with trout.  O'Neal forbay and the chanel's all have stripers. There are always people fishing the aqueduct and deltamendota channels. All those spots are within 45 minutes of turlock.

Hey man, just happened across your intro. Another Turlock area person here. New to it myself. Any luck at Turlock lake or mcswain recently? Turlock lake seems to be useless for fishing at least thats been my impression for years.
