A sampling of the shots I got this Fathers Day weekend out at Whiskeytown Lake...on a calm day the visibility can probably push 50+ feet.  This nesting site had bluegill, sunfish & crappie...pretty cool!

Lake Hennessy bluegill 2lb 1oz

Did you catch that one near the launch, or somewhere else? I've caught my biggest ones there near the launch.

Had to post after seeing this thread pop up...turns out my fiance's old family farm about a mile down the road has a pretty good sized pond that is full of Bluegill and Bass. A lot of fun on the 4 wt.

Nice fish guys!

Here are some Sacramento perch from Lake Almanor.  Arguably the most elusive fish in the lake.  I've heard tales of 3+ pounders being caught here over the years.

Ha, I wish!  Those are various perch over the last three years.  Guys were posting panfish pics so thought I'd contribute with one of the more "unique" species.

Thanks Ryan.  I'd say in general, they have similar feeding habits to crappie.  Their diet turns more to fish as they grow bigger.  But unlike crappie, Sac perch only actively school during the spring spawning period.  After that, they're basically loners for the rest of the year.  This makes targeting them outside of the spring spawn period very difficult.  They can get real moody as to when they want to bite.  Over the last couple years I've started working on nailing down some patterns for them.  A marabou jig under a slip float is a killer technique in the spring when they're up shallow.  In summer, I found drifting small baits and lures drifted over weed beds in 10-20 feet of water is productive.  While targeting perch, you'll have to wade through a LOT of smallmouth bass.  That's not a bad thing, but often times it'll be like 3-4 bass for every 1 perch landed.

BTW, they cook up great!  White, firm fillets.  Some locals claim they're the best-eating fish in the lake.  I've cooked a few and yeah, they're pretty damn good.

crappie fishing was pretty good at lake Mendo this time of year.   They were just off the first break hitting crawlers and minnows.

Where in the column to they tend to be oriented this time of year? I've been getting a good amount of small bass and bluegills with a drop shot rig with crawlers but no lunkers.

I was getting them a foot or 2 above the bottom just as the bottom was dropping off. In about 15fow.  Even got a few on the troll looking for stripers.

All freshwater panfish are good. I love the taste of bluegills the best. And maybe it's just me, but the smaller ones seem to have the most flavor.

Yep, was fishing for LMB on dropshot rig when I hooked this one. She was a big girl, but I was sorry I had hooked her. She had roundworms coming out of her mouth and gills, wasn't going to survive. So I took her home and ate her.  :smt009  :smt010

Still feel guilty about it, taking a big breeder like that. She did taste good fried up and went down easy with a pint of 805 tho!  :smt044
